Welcome to
FRESH In the city

Over the last three decades I've learned more about food than anyone would ever want to . The joke is that I should live in a bubble due to all of the alleriges that I have. Every person I have met in the last ten years knows at least one other person with some sort of severe food allergy. You have to wonder how things have changed so quickly in our society.

When I was a young child I ate everything, and it was mostly fresh foods. My mom had a large garden and always home cooked our meals. Fast forward to my teenage years when I started developing these fatal food allergies. My mom was working, and I was doing all of the food shopping and cooking - in other words we ate nothing that wasn't fully processed and completely unnatural.

So I've changed my ways and slowly done my best to convert my ways over to a more simplistic and simple way of eating. Going into 2010 I was introduced to some great foodies who have become friends and mentors. I was also introduced to the films, "Food, Inc." and "Fresh". With the combination of all of this I have become more determined than ever to change even more.

The first thing I hope to bring to you through Fresh In The City is somewhere to come to be educated on ways to green up your food experience in your and your family's life. The second part of Fresh In The City will be to offer you the very best resources as I find them. I want you to cook fresh, seasonal food. I want you to learn to make organic fit into your life. I want you to know the difference between cage-free and pastured. I want you to live a better life.

health and wellness

It's time  to make those resolutions - so why not think fresh when making them.

1. Banish high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS) or as they are calling now, corn sugar,  from your diet.

2. Recycle.

3. Buy local - only buy items that are within a day (24 hours) from your home

4. Start a garden.

5. Buy Organic

6. Connect to the planet by using public transportation, getting out in nature, and using healthy cleaning chemicals and fuel sources.

There are so many other ways you can lead a fresher life - why don't you make your own list and this year, stick to it. Good Luck!

Education and resources

Our sister site - Bija Coaching - is offering a great free Holistic Food Basics email course for FREE to educate you on the foods that you are eating. This is going to be a great way to learn more about your food so that you can become healthier in 2011.

one sustainable step forward

There are so many ways you can lead a more sustainable lifestyle, but it can be very overwhelming to get started. Every month we offer you one sustainable step to take to move toward a more sustainable life.

This month our step is about being wiser about water. Quit the plastic water bottles and pick up a filtered pitcher or get a whole house water filter. Although replacement filters run as much as ten bucks a pop, they last two months. And think about the harm to the planet when you are drinking from plastic. Reusable water bottles - I prefer my stainless steel bottles - are the simplest sustainable substitution to buying disposables.

I was sure a cute little baby and very curious. That hasn't at all changed. I 'm still trying to figure it all out.
  • If you enjoy the website and the blog - buy me a cup of tea or a latte at Starbuck's. Many afternoons are spent at the local coffee house while my daughter is at her play school. This allows me to create the menu plans and shopping lists in a nice format for you to print out.
