Get Your Glutathione Guys ….and girls

I could listen to Dr. Hyman talk all day talk about the importance of nutrition… you may not realize yet what a nutrition geek I am. Listen, when you have as many food allergies as I do, connected to as many cross proteins in my environment you start to read about nutrition, a lot. My husband is amazing with all of the changes in diet and living. He has been a ROCKSTAR throughout the process and in fact makes a lot of foods like this weekend he is making the sauerkraut that we’ll be eating in about six weeks. Archaeologists have discovered that early hunter gatherers used the fermenting process, mainly as a means of preservation. The Chinese fermented foods and hailed the fermenting juice as a treatment for many ailments I happen to LOVE sauerkraut, and always have But there is nothing like homemade, and I recommend you try it out.

Nutrition, nutrition, nutrition. It’s the root of so much bad and so much good in our lives. The biggest a-ha moment I’ve had this year when I watched and old video of Dr. Hyman talking about glutathione. And that’s what made me do a happy dance when I learned about the Action Whey Shakes made with the glutathione rich undenatured whey. Now not only is it a great product for myself, but it’s also good for men!!

Now you don’t have to just get your glutathione from pastured cows like my husband. I am the creator of the Paleo Vegeo lifestyle so I love that you can also get this from holistically good fruits and vegetables.  Get your greens because spinach, broccoli, asparagus are all great sources. As well your potatoes, avocado, squash, okra, cauliflower, walnuts also have high glutathione per serving. My mother-in-law swears by milk thistle and it is an excellent source of the antioxidant compound silymarin, which may help to prevent glutathione depletion in the liver.  I love adding super organic green powder into my paleo vegan protein shake to get that extra oomph as well.

Glutathione, the “mother of all antioxidants” in the Organic Shake at Emerals Essentials and what it an do for Crossfit Training Men

Glutathione is the “mother of all antioxidants” and until as of recently the only for of whey out there in the body building / crossfit community was hydrolyzed, isolated and packed with nasty excitotoxins. YUCKERS!! Why do you think so many fit healthy guys are coming into the local clinics with very low testosterone in their systems. Hormone problems have become a huge problem with men, not just women. Researchers from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health studied the effects of glutathione depletion on testosterone-producing cells in both young and old rats. Changes in the oxidant/antioxidant environment of aging Leydig cells {testosterone-producing}have been shown to be correlated with the reduced ability of these cells to produce testosterone

The researchers found that indeed, depleting glutathione levels in these cells reduced the rats’ testosterone production by about 40%. When antioxidants were administered, testosterone production was maintained at normal levels, and when a compound was administered specifically to boost intracellular glutathione, testosterone levels actually increased in the test animals. What they found was that indeed, depleting glutathione levels in these cells reduced the rats’ testosterone production by about 40%. If antioxidants were administered, testosterone production was maintained at normal levels. When a compound was administered specifically to boost intracellular glutathione, testosterone levels actually increased in the test animals.

High temperature processed whey creates a high level of toxins that you aren’t getting in the cold processed whey, and you don’t get that glutathione boost with this high temp whey either. Like those in the paleo world have found, the more processed, the worse it is for your body. And if you are someone that really loves to workout, you aren’t realizing how important the whey you are taking is to your body. Physical exercise influences the GSH metabolism in skeletal muscles and your live, and exhaustive exercise decreases both liver and muscle glutathione consistently.

It also helps us deal with free radicals, glutathione recycles life back into our cell…  I love that idea that Dr. Hyman talks about. And with the levels of free radical in your daily life, you do not have enough of it, and that is why this is such an important amino acid. It’s going to detoxify as well. It’s not JUST for men. It works with your cells, and therefore ladies it’s not going to turn you into a dude. It’s not a steroid. In fact, one study involved women with ovarian cancer who were being treated with chemotherapy. Some of the women were also treated with intravenous glutathione. Those given the glutathione not only had fewer side effects from the chemotherapy but also had better overall survival rates. It works with your body, and your cells to make them work better!

Watch this video and learn more about the changes that happen when you add a glutathione rich whey and other organic supplementation into your diet, and head over to try out the Action Whey Protein today to boost your glutithione the natural undenatured way.

Is {vegan/vegetarian} Keto Possible?

A friend just asked me, can you get keto while taking the whole foods supplementation??

Well, yes, if you are following the big trend right now of ‪ketosis‬, you wouldn’t do the shakes because you’ll be like, NO… that’s 1/3 of my carbs.
Carbohydrate (total, not “net”): less than 50 gm/day, but ideally closer to 30 gm/day. However most using the Keto apps are using net carbs, the carbs without fiber and in fact recent studies show that soluble fiber can lower blood glucose levels. Right? So net carbs are 12, and that’s out of 30 – 50 they are allowed per day.

Unfortunately since we need to keep our body in ketosis without people are going all ‪‎keto‬ without many veggies and practically no fruits (a few berries/day). So those folks of course could benefit from taking whole foods encapsulated to supplement the thousands of phytonutrients they would normally get from a diet rich in fruits and veggies. Does that make sense? Your body has thousands of needs for the antioxidants and the vitamins and minerals that you are not going to get without supplementation, and most supplementation out there is just garbage.

Of course you can also use some of the latest modifications on the Florida ketosis powders without losing all of those veggies and that’s what I am looking to do now that 3.0 is available. I was not a big fan of the salts as a stand alone supplement. Beta-hydroxybutyrate levels are higher in people on the ketogenic diet, and children with the highest levels of beta-hydroxybutyrate had the most severe heart problems in studies that I have read recently. However when used with prebiotics, and vegan, well I have decided to give it a try. Butyric acid produced by prebiotics can inhibit some of the enzymes that I want to be careful about in my own diet. {https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDAC3} So if you want to follow keto, low carb, great. The whole foods shake I use is also Low-Glycemic and with the powdered fruit and veg it can give you the transformation you are looking for. Do the research as you know I am big on personal nutritional truth. For me it’s a very personal decision, and I will keep you up to date on it.

It’s All A Journey & We’re In It Together

Sometimes even I get bogged down with all of the hate and sadness in the world. It rolls over you like a giant wave and eventually you give in. That’s when a short look through Heidi’s photos and a quick bit of texting… Even just that little burst brings that spark of hope back to bring you back to life. So then you surf over to the pages of other friends to see smiling babies, and happy dogs and cats… And goats! And your cousin sends you a stampede of goats that you watch maybe too many times this week. And then it’s Friday!! And you made it through the week on the wings of angels. Sad things will always be there, but good friends, good efforts and God are there for us whenever you need them. Just ask.

I am always reading, learning, and sometimes cycling back to something that I learned about when it suddenly fits in my life. It is what living creatures do. We change and grow throughout our life, or at least we hope to. Sometimes we get stuck, but it’s not really stuck. You know what I mean? We have to engage something, incorporate something to get to the next level. I remember when I started Beachbody. It had been on my horizon before, but it was trendy. I don’t do trendy. 😉 However at the right moment, and for the right connection I was meant to make in this life it fit. It moved me back to fitness, gave me a purpose for me. I know a lot of moms that will understand that. It’s easy to get lost in motherhood and suddenly you don’t know who you are at all. When I gave up my salon it was hard. When I left Corporate life it was hard. When I decided to reduce my coaching clients and be a mom, hard. Every single time we close a door, or open an opportunity it is going to be hard. Teaching my daughter, hard.

So I opened myself up to opportunity, and I became a certified personal trainer, and had visions of being a fitness teacher. Some of that has come true, but not in the manner I would have thought it to happen. That is when I was eating traditionally, but hating how much meat it involved. So I went into the 21 Day Kickstart and went vegan. Suddenly it was like WOW! Things started to flow in my life. However I was eating GOBS and GOBS of quinoa. LOL… Like seriously. My life was superfood shakes and quinoa, and salad. No fruit. But hey, lots of quinoa cookies and zucchini bread! So then I started looking at Paleo. Gah!! I cannot do the meat. But it kept calling me. So I went and created a new vein of paleo and called it Paleo Vegeo for those pescatarian, vegetarian and vegan paleo wannabe peeps like me. Cool right? I kept looking for that magical protein shake. The superfoods were changing, and so I found glutathione… and curcumin! More life changes. More oils, more wellness, more change again and again.

So then I opened myself back up to more opportunity and more wellness and spiritual connections, more WOW! Partnerships change, but knowledge keeps happening when you are open to it. I know that every block of knowledge is going to either help someone else, or be something that will eventually help me. So I listen, I learn, I hoard knowledge and hold onto it for when it’s needed. Whole foods, they have come back around, differently because I am eating a ton of fruit and veggies, and I am slowly healing my sugar addiction. It could be worse, because I could have totally caved into my DNA and GABA deficiencies and gone for the liquid GABA. I didn’t though. I learned about aminos, about the addition genes, and just kept adding whole foods. I am getting better. I am changing. It’s what it’s all about. It’s the purpose of living, and I am grateful for it! <3

Using Magic Words To Align The Five Principles Of Reiki

Over the last year I have embraced my energy, and find such joy in finding an aligned purpose for the open heart and open chakras I have always had since childhood. Part of that was getting certified in Reiki, which has brought me many blessings. The place I felt stuck though, was in the Five Principles. I have learned through some of the most amazing trainings that our unconscious mind is always churning. It is always listening. So when you push “fearless” your unconscious mind still hears fear. So I wanted to align my daily practice using the Five Principles to what I felt was aligned to the affirmations my body, mind and soul wanted to hear and say. So here are the ways I updated my principles, and perhaps it will spark something special in your heart.

My Reiki Five Principles:

For This Day:

1. I invite good-natured thoughts and calm emotions.

2. I free myself to feel trust and reassurance.

3. I am grateful for my many blessings and grace.

4. I practice expanding mindfulness and enlightenment.

5. I am gentle and loving with all beings including myself.

Part of what aligning has given me is a connection back to nature. I had sort of lost that, and I was pulled into the “convenient” foods and lifestyle where electronics are simple, food comes from the Whole Foods Market, and I never have to need or want for anything. What a boring, sad, closed off life.
Barbara Christensen I Seattle Reiki Juice Plus

We are trying new things, exploring new areas, connecting to other life forms in a very mindful manner. It’s been very freeing to release and invite so much more back into my life, and to let other emotions fly away as they are no longer needed. It’s the same when you eat well. You feel that connection to the nutrition, and you start seeing energy return, you start seeing endurance return, you start seeing something bigger happening at a cellular level.

Have you ever felt like that? Those little capsules do that for me every time. And when I felt like I had hit a plateau, I doubled the capsules and wow… abundance of cleansing, channels opening, and expanding practices of fitness, prana and simply created joy!

Try using these Five Principles as part of your daily meditation and see what it brings you. I’d love to find out if you find it as helpful as I have. Always remember that how you feel, how you treat yourself, how you take on each moment in each glorious day is exactly what you will attract back to you. Your Vibes Attract Your Tribe! <3 Positive Vibes For Affirmation

Nutrition Can Create Hope & Change

I can’t take the credit for my girl’s change, because she put in the hard work. All I did was give her the knowledge and offer up the basic solution of nutrients. Those little capsules are just something beyond anything I could have every had dreamed up.

When clients come to me, they are looking for hope, and nutrition offers that when you accept it. This amazing lady works in a field when men struggle, and with all of the problems she was dealing with in her life, she still was getting up and giving every day her all.

I watched her over several months as she shifted, changed, give and take, learning. I watched as she pushed the limits in life. This wasn’t just her taking on the nutritional battles in her life, this woman was going for bigger things in her career, her relationships, everything!! It was something amazing to watch and be a part of. I cannot even share how much heart and soul she has!

So she pushed, she changed, she stumbled, she got back up. Like a fighter… which is amazingly enough the soul workout for her. Imagine that. We align to our souls. Her soul is a fighter. Of course I never see a fighter that isn’t also a survivor and especially a lover. All of that heart. But when you put heart together with soul purpose, move through giving your body what it craves… everything else starts to open up. This is what I saw happen here. And I know that before the year is over even more is happening. When you open your heart, you open a storybook. This story is being written in the stars! Keep watching…. she’s on fiyah! Love ya girl!!

Phenotype Methylation Disorders I Beyond The Gene Pool Of Behavior

Do you or your child have a phenotype methylation disorder?

What is a phenotype? It’s your characteristics like the color of your eyes. Your phenotype is a description of your actual physical characteristics. We consider our genetic structure when we talk about hair color, height, but why not behavior. Unfortunately behavioral issues can be effected by more than your gene pool. There are four major behavior phenotypes starting with Antisocial-Personality Disorder, Intermittent Explosive Disorder, Oppositional/Defiant Disorder and Conduct Disorder. All of these have major issues underlying the problem that we really never discuss. I’ve talked a lot recently about MTHFR and this is all a part of the issue I’ve been sharing with you in my obsession over the underlying causes of our health in relation to genetics and nutrition.

For instance the antisocial-personality disorder often has lower copper and zinc levels, they have an under methylation issue, hypoglycemia, heavy metal toxicity and Kryptopyrrole which is an abnormality in biochemistry resulting in the overproduction of pyrrole molecules involving an abnormality in haemoglobin synthesis. The result is major deficiency in Vitamin B6 and Zinc, with a wide spectrum of mental/physical symptoms. The extent of the deficits are so large, they cannot be counterbalanced by foods high in these particular nutrients, and because of the problems I’ve read about with methylation often it is worsened by giving the person the non-methylated supplements thinking that they will help. I’m guessing you’ve never heard of it.

Intermittent Explosive Disorder has high Copper to Zinc ratios. Many high-copper patients (often labeled “depressives”) experience severe PMS, are intolerant to estrogen, and may have a family history of postpartum depression. This group also has a high incidence of acne, eczema, sensitive skin, sunburn, headaches, poor immune function, and white spots under their fingernails.

Elevated copper/zinc ratios can be especially serious for persons with low blood histamine (over-methylation). This combination of imbalances has been associated with anxiety, panic disorders, paranoia, and (in severe cases) hallucinations.

Oppositional/Defiant Disorder has a high histamine level, that stinker low methylation, lower copper as well as lower calcium and magnesium. When brain histamine levels soar out of control, other frightening symptoms occur. Apart from its central role in the mediation of allergic reactions, gastric acid secretion and inflammation in the periphery, histamine serves an important function as a neurotransmitter in the central nervous system. Individuals with high-histamine levels may be due to a metabolic imbalance that results from under-methylation. Again, this means that the body does not methylate nutrition correctly, and needs to have some nutrients methylated for them. Many patients with obsessive-compulsive tendencies, “oppositional-defiant disorder,” or seasonal depression are under-methylated, which is associated with low serotonin levels. Often with inhalant allergies, frequent headaches, perfectionism, competitiveness and other distinctive symptoms and traits. Tend to be very low in calcium, magnesium, methionine, and vitamin B-6 with excessive levels of folic acid. This lends to leaky gut, which causes even more histamine issues. What else elevates histamine levels… exercise, food (especially those already high in histamine like meat, leftovers, chocolate), environmental and food allergies (which is caused partially by the leaky gut, which causes more protein issues, which causes…horrible cycle).

Finally Conduct Disorder also has those severely-elevated pyrroles. It is estimated that approximately 10% of the population have that Kryptopyrrole or pyroluria, with estimates as high as 20% of all psychiatric patients and 40% of all schizophrenic patients, with a higher prevalence in women than men.

So when I say that NUTRIENTS matter and knowing can change your life… it’s bigger than you think! And if you don’t find out the underlying issues, the nutrition you are getting could be the very problem you are fighting to change. This is part of what I do as your holistic guide. I look at your issues, and give you challenges and offer suggestions to take to your practitioner to help you find answers and feel better.Considering the processed food direction we’re going in our country this isn’t going to get any easier out there. The processed food world just keeps more modified, and the natural course of nutrition keeps getting hacked, but not in a good way in my opinion. Like the fact that Coca Cola is bringing Fairlife “milk” to the masses. They say that it is made different from traditional milk. It doesn’t have any lactose or added proteins, is cold-filtered to concentrate the protein and calcium while removing the fat and sugar. Removing the fat? Didn’t we already go that route. Remembering that the enzyme in the butterfat called lipase aids in fat digestion and assimilation of the fat-soluble vitamins. Remember that butterfat boasts anti-inflammatory and anti-carcinogenic properties and absorb the fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E and K in the milk. Seems that added protein and calcium without the fat will be a bad move health-wise, don’t you think?

It truly is time to get serious about all of this, and figure out what works nutritionally for you in the terms of real food.

Why Healthy Breastfeeding Is So Important

Breastfeeding is one of the most overlooked, and yet most important functions of a woman’s body. And yet, we are often so malnourished due to the way that we eat, neither mom or baby are getting proper nutrition. And often toxins are being passed through the breast milk to your child. Malnutrition and obesity are our two greatest global challenges. We are seeing more gastric bypasses, and yet this is another change that is pushing this malnutrition in pregnancy.

I saw this post recently and it just really hit me that this problem isn’t new. This problem has been known about and going on for over sixty years. And the rise in health problems with our children has been going on just as long.

“Yes, there is a battle going on,” Dr. Royal Lee writes in this 1950 article from the magazine The Interpreter. But the war Dr. Lee was referring to did not involve guns or missiles. It was a contest hidden from public view, waged between the nation’s food manufacturers and its first nutritionists—a war regarding the truth about processed foods.

If our breastmilk came with a nutrition label, it might read something like this: 4 percent fat, vitamins A, C, E and K, lactose, essential minerals, growth hormones, proteins, enzymes and antibodies. But read down the label, and the fine print of the chemicals we’re sharing with our children according to the NY Times, at least for some women, sounds considerably less appetizing: DDT (the banned but stubbornly persistent pesticide famous for nearly wiping out the bald eagle), PCB’s, dioxin, trichloroethylene, perchlorate, mercury, lead, benzene, arsenic. When we nurse our babies, we feed them not only the fats, sugars and proteins that fire their immune systems, metabolisms and cerebral synapses. We also feed them, albeit in minuscule amounts, paint thinners, dry-cleaning fluids, wood preservatives, toilet deodorizers, cosmetic additives, gasoline byproducts, rocket fuel, termite poisons, fungicides and flame retardants.

The breastfeeding research I’ve seen says that nutrition is key and is something any nursing mom should really be focused in on. Daily stress and post-pregnancy stress may also cause a deficiency of amino acids, and greater consumption of protein is required for these conditions for optimal health. Although we often have problems digesting heavy proteins, due to leaky gut issues, or you are vegan and you don’t eat those heavy proteins. According to the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), pregnant and nursing women should have a diet that consists of a variety nutrients including proteins, carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals and fats. Moringa oleifera leaves contain many vitamins, minerals, protein, and all essential amino acids (the building blocks for muscle).

30 Day Paleo Nutritional Truth Vegan (or Vegeo) Challenge

If you are doing a Paleo Vegan or Vegetarian or even Pescatarian based Challenge with your gym, this is what should be on your menu:

  • fish = wild caught
  • all fruit is ok
  • all vegetables aside from starchy root vegetables are ok
  • local, raw honey is the only sweetener used (aside from fruit)
  • nuts and seeds are ok (soaked preferably)
  • pastured eggs are ok
  • no dairy
  • no processed gmo-soy
  • no grains or grain-like seeds (that means no quinoa, millet, amaranth, & buckwheat during the challenge phase)
  • no legumes
  • no alcohol

This can be hard to go through, but it’s something that is going to really help you in the end. I end up turning to things like hemp protein smoothies, and sacha inchi seeds to keep me going because I don’t want to eat too much fish and I don’t eat eggs during the induction phase. This is because eggs are a top allergen, and you want to allow your body to heal up as much as possible during that 30 day Paleo challenge.

What about going through a more traditional clean up? Maybe you still eat gluten-free grains? Maybe you are vegan and you have organic non-gmo soy on your meal plan? Maybe you have some autoimmune issues or you have histamine running crazy in your body?  That’s where you move into finding your own nutritional truth.

What Can You Eat during my program:
  • Protein:  pastured eggs, pastured + organic, full fat, fermented coconut yogurt/kefir, organic tempeh, natto, edamame, organic eggs, Complete protein, organic tofu (extra-firm), soaked lentils and various soaked and rinsed beans, hemp and/or pea protein powder
  • Vegetables:  Acorn, Arugula, Asparagus, Beets, Bell Peppers, Bok Choy, Broccoli/Broccolini, Brussel Sprouts, Buttercup Squash, Butternut Squash, Cabbage, Carrots, Cauliflower, Collard Greens, Delicata Squash, Garlic, Kale, Leeks, Lettuce, Onions, Shallots, Rutabaga, Spinach, Summer Squash, Sweet Potato, Swiss Chard, Tomato, Turnip, Watercress, Yams, Zucchini … If you deal with autoimmune issues or are trying to lose weight go gentle with Artichoke, Broccoli Rabe, Celery, Cucumber, Eggplant, Fennel Root, Green Beans, Jicama, Kohlrabi, Mushrooms, Okra, Parsnips, Pumpkin, Radish, Rhubarb, Snow Peas, Spaghetti Squash. Sprouts, Sugar Snap Peas
  • Fruit: Love yourself some Apricots, Bananas, Blackberries, Blueberries, Cherries, Grapefruit, Kiwi, Melon, Plum, Raspberries, Strawberries and again if you trying to lose weight go gently into Apples, Dates, Figs, Grapes, Lemon, Lime, Mango, Nectarines, Oranges, Papaya, Peaches, Pears, Pineapple, Pomegranate, Tangerines, Watermelon
  • Fats:  MCT oil, Coconut Butter, Coconut Oil, EVOO, Avocado, Cashews, Coconut Flakes, Coconut Milk, Macadamia Nuts, Macadamia Butter, Hazelnuts, Olives… if you have PCOS then be gentle with Almonds, Almond Butter, Brazil Nuts, Pecans, Pistachio, Flax Seeds, Hemp Seeds, Pine nuts, Pumpkin Seeds, Sesame Seeds, Sunflower Seeds, Sunbutter, Walnuts

So what can I eat during the Challenge?

I like to eat a lot of greens. I generally have greens in a big green smoothie for breakfast with some fruit, my Complete and some flaxseed/chia. I also have a nice big tea with some EVOO in it after my lemon water. For lunch you’ll find me with lots of salads, braised greens, and and another smoothie almost every day. And then of course if I miss me some yummy starchy potatoes… I really do eat them. One challenge comfort food for me is mashed carrots and rutabagas, yum!

Mashed Carrots and Rutabaga (from Eat, Live, Grow, Paleo with my change ups)

Ingredients :
– carrots
– rutabaga
– coconut milk
– Earth balance soy-free vegan butter or coconut oil
– Himilayan salt and pepper
– Garlic (crushed) – to your taste
– Handful of basil leaves, shredded and diced

 Directions :
1. Peel and cut carrots and rutabaga into small pieces.
2. Steam until very tender (about 10 to 15 minutes)
3. In your Vitamix or food processor (or with an immersion blender) puree the vegetables together adding coconut oil and seasonings to taste. Add just a small amount of coconut milk so it adds to the creamy taste but doesn’t turn your vegetable into a sauce. Add in the garlic and basil and let it mix in.

Add this with some sauteed greens and you will have found my heaven. There are tricks to making it through a 30 Day Paleo Vegeo Challenge, and this for me is one of the best, challenge yourself to find subs for the items you crave. Everyone has a nutritional truth… find yours.

Increase Your Vitality Receptors I Manifesting and Receiving at your cellular level

Fantastic live streaming event I did, and thankfully I can still share if for those of you that didn’t get to attend. At a cellular level we are just machines, but that means we are built to receive. Are you ready for it?

Basic Transcription:

Increase Your Vitality Receptors:

Slide One: I am so excited to talk on this topic. It’s the first time outside of a one on one client consult that I have shared this truth of receiving. Because you know we are built for it, and created for it.

Slide Two: Who Am I? I am a Holistic Coach. I started coaching small business owners in 2001, and have since grown into a full wholistically driven coaching practice. As a Certified Aromatherapist, Personal Trainer, Nutritional Therapist and Holistic Lifestyle and Wellness Coach and Reiki Practitioner I bring it all to the table for you. Well rounding strategies to help you live your purpose driven, soul enlightened life!

Slide Three: Let’s talk about what receiving really means. To receive is to energy? We understand that right now I can hand you a paper and you would receive it. Simple. Just like that tangible paper, spiritual or abundant, or say manifested energy is no less real than any other energy, like electricity for example, but is vastly more important. Spiritual energy is prana and also known as “universal life force” or “qi” and is carried by pure love. Our bodies were built with that universal template of giving and receiving. As a machine of cells that is really all that we are doing. Giving and receiving throughout the day. In fact when you hug someone it’s not just that hormonal joy that you receive, but it’s a microbiome based exchange that takes place as our microbiome are not just confined to our inner cells. The are permeating throughout our bodies and if magnified via a very powerful microscope you would see that it surrounds you, as does your energy, like the dust storm that surrounds PigPen the Peanuts character.

Slide Four: We were made for this!! And not just receiving one bit of energy at one time. We have so many receptors that we are like those receptor cells waiting for the magnitude of peptides swirling about the universe. With knowledge gained from DNA testing we know that we can control what peptides we put in our bodies via nutrition, the relationships we engage in, the toxins in our homes and all that surrounds us. A peptide is such a wonderful and simple object, made more beautiful and less fearful when it can be understood as such a little miracle. Did you know you can hold a peptide in your hand? We are made of peptides and peptides are everywhere around us, even floating on dust in the air we breath. Consider the peptides that are found in food and that when we have tested cancer tissue we can see what peptides are generated by cancer cells. What about peptides created by cancerous thoughts and actions?

Slide Five: I like to think of sunshine in terms of what you see with the peptides and the receptors in our body. The Sun shines down and touches many things, yet it does only one thing. Shine. Peptides are really just short little pieces of proteins.
There are no dangerous elements in a peptides. They are made of amino acids, and these are made of the same elements that make up human beings. The pattern of the “beads on the string” is what makes peptides bioactive. Think again about the sunshine. How different is a sunset here in the valley and a sunset over the ocean? Each unique pattern of these “beaded strings” can be recognized by our immune system, but the origin of the peptide is not encoded in the sequence of amino acids or as we are calling them, beads. A peptide from a cancer cell and from a chicken sandwich can be exactly the same pattern. When this happens, the immune system can get confused and stop attacking the cancer. When a unique peptide is recognized in the digestive tract, the immune system is trained to shut down responses toward the food peptides. If you have known anyone with cancer, you have heard lots of discussions on T cells. Each T cell has a receptor that can scan cancer cells looking for a peptide that will activate it. But what about when mutated peptide in the cancer cell matches a peptide expressed in pork and tells it to activate? Where there are proteins there are peptides. As proteins breakdown into amino acids, they transition through a stage where they are peptides. The location and the part of the protein that is broken determines what peptides are available for inspection by the immune system. Every whole food, every bacteria and living organism is full of peptides that can be evaluated by our immune system. And this all seems to be centralized to that digestive system, and the little colony of bacteria that reside within it.

Slide Six: So everything that is going on in your life right now, has to do with peptides. How much of any one particular peptide that you have in your system right now and how it’s impacting you comes down to all that you are. Those people we are sitting here with right now, the measurable thoughts we are having, what you had for lunch today, and the lingering essential oil aromas or chemical toxins right here in this very room. But most importantly is how that makes you feel … And how many emotions do we have throughout the day. Especially if you consider all of the stimulation in our lives from video games, social media, relationships, school, sugar, processed foods, and more.

Slide Seven: Negative activities, negative foods, negative thinking is like a brick wall preventing you from manifesting, from receiving because it becomes the driver for your being. There are so many thing that come together to create positive thinking or negative thinking. You learn to control that, and you learn to receive. We learn that when we drink a cup of freshly juiced greens or take capsules or non-gmo foods that it shares the enzymes to break down the peptides to activate all of the good we desire in our life. Cellularly we are electricity and pathways for chemical reactions. Both good and bad. Your immune system is trained to be able to recognize non-self proteins that are generated from cancer mutations. This recognition allows the immune system to attack just the cancer cells specifically. You want to do whatever you can to protect those T cells. When it comes to our wellness, there are essentially four things under our control: the decision not to do drugs of all varieties, a commitment to exercise as we are meant to move as our lymphatic systems will easily tell you, the quality of our diet – how close to non-gmo, pesticide free our food is … as well to how close to real food it is, and our level of optimism. And would it surprise you to know that optimism is at least as beneficial as the others.

Slide Eight: There seems to be a clear, fairly consistent connection between negative emotions and unhealthy foods… why do you think that is? Research shows that there is a defined connection between negative moods and unhealthy foods, and positive moods and healthy foods. The big defining factors are in the quality of our food, and the connected element of time. When you think about either the present or the future regardless of mood, long-term, future-focused thinking led to healthier choices. When you visualize.. manifest… receive .. you are activating a focus to choose the foods that will align to exactly what your body needs! When you get depressed and get anxious what do you choose to eat? It’s almost always not the best choices. There are many examples of biologically active food proteins, with physiological significance beyond the pure nutritional requirements that concern available nitrogen for normal growth and maintenance. Moreover, there are many physiologically active peptides, derived by protease activity from various food protein sources. Food addictions are not strictly “psychological” problems, but have a hard-wired, organic component. Many of the most commonly consumed foods in Western culture actually contain narcotic properties associated with the presence of psychoactive chemicals that bind to those opioid receptors in the nervous system. These peptides are so powerful that researchers block their action with drugs when treating drug addiction. These “food opiates” are heavily concentrated in wheat and dairy products, especially cow’s milk. Thus why people feel more control, more active and just feel “better” when they stop eating gluten and dairy products. It’s a central part of my personal coaching programs because I have seen differences like night and day.

Slide Nine: Going even further, internal bacteria can impact how you feel. But it’s not only bacteria, it’s the altered bi-directional communication between cells and its microbiome, that leads to anxiety and depression.
MACs are complex carbohydrates, the types found in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and legumes. When we consume MACs they release compounds into our gut that helps our body regulate its immune system, keeps pathogenic or bad bacteria at bay, and even contribute to whether we are lean or obese. What happens if you haven’t eaten any MACs? Does your good bacteria hangs around waiting, famished, hopeful that you will feed it again soon? Not exactly. When your diet doesn’t contain enough MACs, your microbes are forced to rely on the only other carbohydrate source it has left, you. Your intestine secretes a slimy coat of carbohydrates that lines your intestinal wall called mucus. This mucus lining is a rich source of carbohydrates that starving microbes can feast on when dietary pickings are slim. In this way many of our gut microbes can have a bit of a Jekyll and Hyde type of personality. Provide gut microbes with plenty of sustenance in the form of MACs and they will happily convert them into molecules our body needs to be healthy. Starve them of dietary MACs and they will munch on your mucus lining inching ever closer to your intestinal wall. This can cause that leaky gut as well as long-term this situation could be an immune system that’s on a hair trigger, impacting not only the health of your gut but your entire body. A professor of genetic epidemiology at King’s College London, Tim Spector, wanted to find out what happens to your gut if you eat only fast food, specifically McDonald’s, for 10 solid days.

His son, Tom, became the willing guinea pig and reported his symptoms, as well as sent stool samples to different labs, throughout the 10-day trial. If you watched Morgan Spurlock’s documentary “Super-Size Me,” you probably have an idea of how the experiment panned out…
“Tom said that for three days he felt ok, but then started to become more lethargic and turned a slight gray color according to his friends. He reported feeling bad the last few days and says he also experienced some withdrawal symptoms,” TIME reported.1
The most revealing results came from the stool samples, however, which revealed what the fast food had done to Tom’s gut…
Recent research has focused on three specific phytochemicals: glucosinolates in cruciferous vegetables, soy isoflavones, and plant lignins. Cruciferous vegetables—that is, broccoli and its vegetable relatives—are the poster children of cancer-preventing vegetables. From a human dietary perspective, one of the challenges to deriving chemopreventive benefit from cruciferous vegetables is that the active component that actually imparts the protective benefit, is difficult to access. It exists in the plant as an enzyme which is active only in raw vegetables. Cooking inactivates it. Too much of this enzyme tends to cause gastritis in some individuals and can compete with iodine for uptake by the thyroid in others. Given that very few human populations regularly consume raw cruciferous vegetables, how are humans deriving the chemopreventive benefit of broccoli and other cruciferous vegetables? The answer is in our gut microbiome. The research show that a wide range of these enzymes are recovered in urine after eating 200 grams of cooked broccoli which is about one and one-eighth cups.
Research presented the Molecular Nutrition groups at the University of Aberdeen Rowett Research Institute of Nutrition and Health, is showing that manipulating the microbiome through diet leads to significant changes in metabolites that play a role in inflammation, a condition linked to increased risk for many cancers. In intervention trials, Russell and her colleagues have focused on testing diets related to protein and carbohydrates. The researchers knew the major metabolites in the gut and had identified that certain metabolites were particularly anti-inflammatory. In one intervention, test participants consumed an Atkins-style, high protein, low-carbohydrate diet; in another study, two groups of participants consumed similar diets except one group took in their protein from meat sources and the other from soy. After three to four weeks on the diet, biological samples showed changes in the gut microbes and their activity. “With certain diets, the anti-inflammatory metabolites were significantly affected,” said Russell. In the meat versus soy protein diet, there was an increase in the inflammatory molecules for the meat eaters, not similar with the soy protein. Other studies also show that soy protein is a good source of nutrient but also a biological polymer to influence physiological change and microbiome changes when it’s a good non-gmo soy product rather than a subpar genetically modified or highly processed soy. Most soy used in food is genetically modified and as well is extracted by an industrial process from the waste product of soy oil manufacturing. It is the industry’s way of making a profit on a waste product. Like our food we are seeing that limited processing is where we get the most benefit from whole foods.

Slide Ten: The process goes Unhealthy Fats > Endotoxins > inflammation > insulin resistance > obesity /risk of type 2 or type 3 diabetes. In the fat study I talked about, as soon as they gave the mice soluble plant fibers the whole cascade averted. No endotoxins, no inflammation, no insulin resistance and no weight gain. Apricots, grapefruit, mangoes and oranges. Brussels sprouts have one of the highest amounts of soluble fiber. A 1/2-cup serving contains 2 grams. Turnips, sweet potatoes and asparagus all have 1.7 grams or more. Brussels sprouts and turnips contain those glucosinolates. Consider a raw turnip salad. A single tablespoon of ground flaxseed contains 1.1 grams of soluble fiber. Ground flaxseeds also contain healthy omega-3 fatty acids, which, along with soluble fiber, help reduce heart disease risk. Oatmeal contains 1.4 grams of soluble fiber per 1/3-cup serving. Gluten-free oats also contain high amounts of iron, phosphorus, magnesium and potassium. And of course legumes are especially high in soluble fiber. This soluble fiber is a prebiotic which nourishes the healthy microbiome in your gut.

So why plant based proteins over animal based? Research using a comparison was done where they looked at our gut health after eating meat and dairy, and then looked at the microbiome after eating plants. The microbes that “love bile” — the Bilophila — started to dominate the volunteers’ guts during the animal-based diet. Bile helps the stomach digest fats. So people make more bile when their diet is rich in meat and dairy fats. A study last year found that blooms of Bilophila cause inflammation and colitis in research studies.

Studies have also been done on the fats, and the types of lipids we consume affect the composition of our gut health. This one is important because it has to do with those of us that will develop obesity-related inflammation, according to a study published in Cell Metabolism. Mice fed a high-lard diet for 11 weeks developed signs of metabolic disease, while mice fed fish oil remained healthy. When the researchers transplanted gut microbes from fish oil-fed mice to antibiotic-treated mice and then subsequently fed the animals lard, the mice were protected from the typical unhealthy effects. Dietary supplementation with a compound that is naturally abundant in red wine and olive oil prevents gut microbes from turning unhealthy

A new inter-disciplinary study led by researchers at Tufts University found that coconut oil effectively controlled the overgrowth of a fungal pathogen we know as candida in mice. In humans, high levels of this fungal organism in the gastrointestinal tract can lead to bloodstream infections, including invasive candida. The research, published recently, suggests that it might be possible to use dietary approaches as an alternative to antifungal drugs in order to decrease the risk of infections caused by candida. However coconut oil elevates the endotoxins for up to two hours after a meal, and if endotoxin levels rise, our immune system perceives a threat and responds with inflammation. Ground breaking research done in Brussels shows exactly why that isn’t supportive to our microbiome. When they dosed the mice with endotoxins, the mice gained weight. They also developed insulin resistance. I believe this is the reason why MTC oil has a different impact than just using Coconut oil. MCT diet maintains the tight junctions between cells, normalizing serum endotoxin. Coconut oil is not a cure-all. Research supporting claims of its role in preventing, reducing risk for, or curing HIV/AIDS, diabetes, thyroid disease, or Alzheimer’s disease is sparse or non-existent. There is little evidence to suggest it has a significant effect on inflammation or bacterial infection when consumed in food. And the pre-clinical research in cancer is mixed. It is a far better oil to cook with, but almost all of the clinical research I have seen is all based on MCT oil and not based on coconut oil. Olive oil on the other hand has had a ton of amazing information and clinical studies… Cleveland Clinic researchers have demonstrated – for the first time – that targeting microbes in the gut may prevent heart disease brought on by nutrients contained in a diet rich in red meat, eggs and high-fat dairy products. This novel approach centers around the research team’s previous discovery that TMAO, a byproduct formed in the gut during digestion of animal fats – is linked to atherosclerosis which is plaque buildup, and heart disease. They identified a naturally occurring inhibitor called DMB that is found in some cold-pressed extra virgin olive oils and grapeseed oils – that reduced levels of TMAO and reduced atherosclerosis in mice. So truly what you eat can be the biggest way to keep your cells functioning well, and our receptors activating in a way that is aligned to receiving.

Slide Eleven: We each are receptors of the energy of the universe. Arguably, the connection between the gut and the brain is somewhat embedded in our collective unconscious. Expressions such as “gut feeling” are of common usage. Many common idioms using the word “gut” are somehow illustrative of a brain-gut connection: “have the guts” – have courage; “hate someone’s guts” – hate someone, which is basically hating their personality, temper or attitude; “spill one’s guts” – to confess, say what’s on one’s mind; “gut reaction” – a basic and instinctive reaction to something; “butterflies in the stomach” – you know, when you see someone you fancy…Butterflies in the stomach are your microbes shaking in fear of what is coming. There is a truth to the fact that if you do not care of that which is embedded in our collective unconscious, then you indeed are ending the connectivity with any energy that comes your way. The collective unconscious transcends this reality. Every action has and needs an equal and opposite reaction. We receive energy, the energy must go somewhere in order to complete the circuit. This completion of the circuit is the creation of what feeds back into the collective unconscious. Once that energy goes back into the collective unconscious, the cycle repeats indefinitely because each action requires reaction over and over again. There is an infinite ability here to be both receiving and giving. We are receiving information – energy – in a non-linear way. Downloads of energy that open us to feelings or inner sight, inspiring us to creative expression. Gut to brain, energy and life. Live whole and you will find all of these informational pods that are just for you!

Slide Twelve: These 3 daily activities have been scientifically proven to boost brain function. Follow them on a regular basis for best results.

1. Eat well — I will always go to nutrition first! A a nutritional therapist I know we can’t always eat well, nor can we get the similar nutrients due to depleted soil in our large scale producers. I choose organic, or local non-gmo where crops are rotated and for the same reasons I bridge the gap with Juice Plus+ for my clients, and my family.
2. Follow healthy emotions and reduce stress on the cognitive functions with fitness and by building healthy relationships. There is no good that comes out of staying connected to someone for the reasons of “fixing” them. And of course we are made for movement. Our bodies haven’t changed that much ancestrally. If you eat a lot of plants, and you move a lot, you will feel better.
3. Know that you are always receiving as you were made for it. The truth of what you’ll do with that energy is up to you. Take some time every day to drive this home through meditation or meditative behavior. Walking in nature or yoga are two items I like to call meditation in motion. It’s not all about the zeny zen. It’s about that inner connection to opening up the reception for what you are about to receive.
