Let’s talk for a minute about those Juice Plus Capsules, can we? It took me a long time to actually look them over. I didn’t understand them, and of course I was very against soy no matter how unprocessed ever since I started reacting to it. I did used to eat edamame a long time ago, so when I started reacting to soy milk, I just gave it all up.

I was sharing the capsules with someone just the other day and they said to me, ” I’m sure your Juice Plus are good products sweetie but, looks like limited to Vit A, C, E, Folate!” First off… sweetie… I KNOW!! However since he is older than I am, I’ll let it go. But I told him that it’s just a label he’s reading. We have no control over how the FDA has determined labels should be created. They are looking for specific items for Nutritional Labels to show. It’s the same for orange juice or for a box of oatmeal. However these whole food capsules have the whole orange in the capsule. It has the entire broccoli. It’s so far beyond the idea of a vitamin, which is why it doesn’t have a Supplement Fact Label, but rather a Nutritional Fact Label. It’s food. It takes just six hours to go from farm to capsule, and I cannot say that about most of your food in the market. You would have to go straight to the Farmer’s Market or the Farm to get that sort of fresh, raw whole foods, however you wouldn’t get the variety.

Slide One: I am so excited to talk on this topic. It’s the first time outside of a one on one client consult that I have shared this truth of receiving. Because you know we are built for it, and created for it.

Slide Two: Who Am I? I am a Holistic Coach. I started coaching small business owners in 2001, and have since grown into a full wholistically driven coaching practice. As a Certified Aromatherapist, Personal Trainer, Nutritional Therapist and Holistic Lifestyle and Wellness Coach and Reiki Practitioner I bring it all to the table for you. Well rounding strategies to help you live your purpose driven, soul enlightened life!

Slide Three: Let’s talk about what receiving really means. To receive is to energy? We understand that right now I can hand you a paper and you would receive it. Simple. Just like that tangible paper, spiritual or abundant, or say manifested energy is no less real than any other energy, like electricity for example, but is vastly more important. Spiritual energy is prana and also known as “universal life force” or “qi” and is carried by pure love. Our bodies were built with that universal template of giving and receiving. As a machine of cells that is really all that we are doing. Giving and receiving throughout the day. In fact when you hug someone it’s not just that hormonal joy that you receive, but it’s a microbiome based exchange that takes place as our microbiome are not just confined to our inner cells. The are permeating throughout our bodies and if magnified via a very powerful microscope you would see that it surrounds you, as does your energy, like the dust storm that surrounds PigPen the Peanuts character.

Slide Four: We were made for this!! And not just receiving one bit of energy at one time. We have so many receptors that we are like those receptor cells waiting for the magnitude of peptides swirling about the universe. With knowledge gained from DNA testing we know that we can control what peptides we put in our bodies via nutrition, the relationships we engage in, the toxins in our homes and all that surrounds us. A peptide is such a wonderful and simple object, made more beautiful and less fearful when it can be understood as such a little miracle. Did you know you can hold a peptide in your hand? We are made of peptides and peptides are everywhere around us, even floating on dust in the air we breath. Consider the peptides that are found in food and that when we have tested cancer tissue we can see what peptides are generated by cancer cells. What about peptides created by cancerous thoughts and actions?

Slide Five: I like to think of sunshine in terms of what you see with the peptides and the receptors in our body. The Sun shines down and touches many things, yet it does only one thing. Shine. Peptides are really just short little pieces of proteins.
There are no dangerous elements in a peptides. They are made of amino acids, and these are made of the same elements that make up human beings. The pattern of the “beads on the string” is what makes peptides bioactive. Think again about the sunshine. How different is a sunset here in the valley and a sunset over the ocean? Each unique pattern of these “beaded strings” can be recognized by our immune system, but the origin of the peptide is not encoded in the sequence of amino acids or as we are calling them, beads. A peptide from a cancer cell and from a chicken sandwich can be exactly the same pattern. When this happens, the immune system can get confused and stop attacking the cancer. When a unique peptide is recognized in the digestive tract, the immune system is trained to shut down responses toward the food peptides. If you have known anyone with cancer, you have heard lots of discussions on T cells. Each T cell has a receptor that can scan cancer cells looking for a peptide that will activate it. But what about when mutated peptide in the cancer cell matches a peptide expressed in pork and tells it to activate? Where there are proteins there are peptides. As proteins breakdown into amino acids, they transition through a stage where they are peptides. The location and the part of the protein that is broken determines what peptides are available for inspection by the immune system. Every whole food, every bacteria and living organism is full of peptides that can be evaluated by our immune system. And this all seems to be centralized to that digestive system, and the little colony of bacteria that reside within it.

Slide Six: So everything that is going on in your life right now, has to do with peptides. How much of any one particular peptide that you have in your system right now and how it’s impacting you comes down to all that you are. Those people we are sitting here with right now, the measurable thoughts we are having, what you had for lunch today, and the lingering essential oil aromas or chemical toxins right here in this very room. But most importantly is how that makes you feel … And how many emotions do we have throughout the day. Especially if you consider all of the stimulation in our lives from video games, social media, relationships, school, sugar, processed foods, and more.

Slide Seven: Negative activities, negative foods, negative thinking is like a brick wall preventing you from manifesting, from receiving because it becomes the driver for your being. There are so many thing that come together to create positive thinking or negative thinking. You learn to control that, and you learn to receive. We learn that when we drink a cup of freshly juiced greens or take capsules or non-gmo foods that it shares the enzymes to break down the peptides to activate all of the good we desire in our life. Cellularly we are electricity and pathways for chemical reactions. Both good and bad. Your immune system is trained to be able to recognize non-self proteins that are generated from cancer mutations. This recognition allows the immune system to attack just the cancer cells specifically. You want to do whatever you can to protect those T cells. When it comes to our wellness, there are essentially four things under our control: the decision not to do drugs of all varieties, a commitment to exercise as we are meant to move as our lymphatic systems will easily tell you, the quality of our diet – how close to non-gmo, pesticide free our food is … as well to how close to real food it is, and our level of optimism. And would it surprise you to know that optimism is at least as beneficial as the others.

Slide Eight: There seems to be a clear, fairly consistent connection between negative emotions and unhealthy foods… why do you think that is? Research shows that there is a defined connection between negative moods and unhealthy foods, and positive moods and healthy foods. The big defining factors are in the quality of our food, and the connected element of time. When you think about either the present or the future regardless of mood, long-term, future-focused thinking led to healthier choices. When you visualize.. manifest… receive .. you are activating a focus to choose the foods that will align to exactly what your body needs! When you get depressed and get anxious what do you choose to eat? It’s almost always not the best choices. There are many examples of biologically active food proteins, with physiological significance beyond the pure nutritional requirements that concern available nitrogen for normal growth and maintenance. Moreover, there are many physiologically active peptides, derived by protease activity from various food protein sources. Food addictions are not strictly “psychological” problems, but have a hard-wired, organic component. Many of the most commonly consumed foods in Western culture actually contain narcotic properties associated with the presence of psychoactive chemicals that bind to those opioid receptors in the nervous system. These peptides are so powerful that researchers block their action with drugs when treating drug addiction. These “food opiates” are heavily concentrated in wheat and dairy products, especially cow’s milk. Thus why people feel more control, more active and just feel “better” when they stop eating gluten and dairy products. It’s a central part of my personal coaching programs because I have seen differences like night and day.

Slide Nine: Going even further, internal bacteria can impact how you feel. But it’s not only bacteria, it’s the altered bi-directional communication between cells and its microbiome, that leads to anxiety and depression.
MACs are complex carbohydrates, the types found in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and legumes. When we consume MACs they release compounds into our gut that helps our body regulate its immune system, keeps pathogenic or bad bacteria at bay, and even contribute to whether we are lean or obese. What happens if you haven’t eaten any MACs? Does your good bacteria hangs around waiting, famished, hopeful that you will feed it again soon? Not exactly. When your diet doesn’t contain enough MACs, your microbes are forced to rely on the only other carbohydrate source it has left, you. Your intestine secretes a slimy coat of carbohydrates that lines your intestinal wall called mucus. This mucus lining is a rich source of carbohydrates that starving microbes can feast on when dietary pickings are slim. In this way many of our gut microbes can have a bit of a Jekyll and Hyde type of personality. Provide gut microbes with plenty of sustenance in the form of MACs and they will happily convert them into molecules our body needs to be healthy. Starve them of dietary MACs and they will munch on your mucus lining inching ever closer to your intestinal wall. This can cause that leaky gut as well as long-term this situation could be an immune system that’s on a hair trigger, impacting not only the health of your gut but your entire body. A professor of genetic epidemiology at King’s College London, Tim Spector, wanted to find out what happens to your gut if you eat only fast food, specifically McDonald’s, for 10 solid days.

His son, Tom, became the willing guinea pig and reported his symptoms, as well as sent stool samples to different labs, throughout the 10-day trial. If you watched Morgan Spurlock’s documentary “Super-Size Me,” you probably have an idea of how the experiment panned out…
“Tom said that for three days he felt ok, but then started to become more lethargic and turned a slight gray color according to his friends. He reported feeling bad the last few days and says he also experienced some withdrawal symptoms,” TIME reported.1
The most revealing results came from the stool samples, however, which revealed what the fast food had done to Tom’s gut…
Recent research has focused on three specific phytochemicals: glucosinolates in cruciferous vegetables, soy isoflavones, and plant lignins. Cruciferous vegetables—that is, broccoli and its vegetable relatives—are the poster children of cancer-preventing vegetables. From a human dietary perspective, one of the challenges to deriving chemopreventive benefit from cruciferous vegetables is that the active component that actually imparts the protective benefit, is difficult to access. It exists in the plant as an enzyme which is active only in raw vegetables. Cooking inactivates it. Too much of this enzyme tends to cause gastritis in some individuals and can compete with iodine for uptake by the thyroid in others. Given that very few human populations regularly consume raw cruciferous vegetables, how are humans deriving the chemopreventive benefit of broccoli and other cruciferous vegetables? The answer is in our gut microbiome. The research show that a wide range of these enzymes are recovered in urine after eating 200 grams of cooked broccoli which is about one and one-eighth cups.
Research presented the Molecular Nutrition groups at the University of Aberdeen Rowett Research Institute of Nutrition and Health, is showing that manipulating the microbiome through diet leads to significant changes in metabolites that play a role in inflammation, a condition linked to increased risk for many cancers. In intervention trials, Russell and her colleagues have focused on testing diets related to protein and carbohydrates. The researchers knew the major metabolites in the gut and had identified that certain metabolites were particularly anti-inflammatory. In one intervention, test participants consumed an Atkins-style, high protein, low-carbohydrate diet; in another study, two groups of participants consumed similar diets except one group took in their protein from meat sources and the other from soy. After three to four weeks on the diet, biological samples showed changes in the gut microbes and their activity. “With certain diets, the anti-inflammatory metabolites were significantly affected,” said Russell. In the meat versus soy protein diet, there was an increase in the inflammatory molecules for the meat eaters, not similar with the soy protein. Other studies also show that soy protein is a good source of nutrient but also a biological polymer to influence physiological change and microbiome changes when it’s a good non-gmo soy product rather than a subpar genetically modified or highly processed soy. Most soy used in food is genetically modified and as well is extracted by an industrial process from the waste product of soy oil manufacturing. It is the industry’s way of making a profit on a waste product. Like our food we are seeing that limited processing is where we get the most benefit from whole foods.

Slide Ten: The process goes Unhealthy Fats > Endotoxins > inflammation > insulin resistance > obesity /risk of type 2 or type 3 diabetes. In the fat study I talked about, as soon as they gave the mice soluble plant fibers the whole cascade averted. No endotoxins, no inflammation, no insulin resistance and no weight gain. Apricots, grapefruit, mangoes and oranges. Brussels sprouts have one of the highest amounts of soluble fiber. A 1/2-cup serving contains 2 grams. Turnips, sweet potatoes and asparagus all have 1.7 grams or more. Brussels sprouts and turnips contain those glucosinolates. Consider a raw turnip salad. A single tablespoon of ground flaxseed contains 1.1 grams of soluble fiber. Ground flaxseeds also contain healthy omega-3 fatty acids, which, along with soluble fiber, help reduce heart disease risk. Oatmeal contains 1.4 grams of soluble fiber per 1/3-cup serving. Gluten-free oats also contain high amounts of iron, phosphorus, magnesium and potassium. And of course legumes are especially high in soluble fiber. This soluble fiber is a prebiotic which nourishes the healthy microbiome in your gut.

So why plant based proteins over animal based? Research using a comparison was done where they looked at our gut health after eating meat and dairy, and then looked at the microbiome after eating plants. The microbes that “love bile” — the Bilophila — started to dominate the volunteers’ guts during the animal-based diet. Bile helps the stomach digest fats. So people make more bile when their diet is rich in meat and dairy fats. A study last year found that blooms of Bilophila cause inflammation and colitis in research studies.

Studies have also been done on the fats, and the types of lipids we consume affect the composition of our gut health. This one is important because it has to do with those of us that will develop obesity-related inflammation, according to a study published in Cell Metabolism. Mice fed a high-lard diet for 11 weeks developed signs of metabolic disease, while mice fed fish oil remained healthy. When the researchers transplanted gut microbes from fish oil-fed mice to antibiotic-treated mice and then subsequently fed the animals lard, the mice were protected from the typical unhealthy effects. Dietary supplementation with a compound that is naturally abundant in red wine and olive oil prevents gut microbes from turning unhealthy

A new inter-disciplinary study led by researchers at Tufts University found that coconut oil effectively controlled the overgrowth of a fungal pathogen we know as candida in mice. In humans, high levels of this fungal organism in the gastrointestinal tract can lead to bloodstream infections, including invasive candida. The research, published recently, suggests that it might be possible to use dietary approaches as an alternative to antifungal drugs in order to decrease the risk of infections caused by candida. However coconut oil elevates the endotoxins for up to two hours after a meal, and if endotoxin levels rise, our immune system perceives a threat and responds with inflammation. Ground breaking research done in Brussels shows exactly why that isn’t supportive to our microbiome. When they dosed the mice with endotoxins, the mice gained weight. They also developed insulin resistance. I believe this is the reason why MTC oil has a different impact than just using Coconut oil. MCT diet maintains the tight junctions between cells, normalizing serum endotoxin. Coconut oil is not a cure-all. Research supporting claims of its role in preventing, reducing risk for, or curing HIV/AIDS, diabetes, thyroid disease, or Alzheimer’s disease is sparse or non-existent. There is little evidence to suggest it has a significant effect on inflammation or bacterial infection when consumed in food. And the pre-clinical research in cancer is mixed. It is a far better oil to cook with, but almost all of the clinical research I have seen is all based on MCT oil and not based on coconut oil. Olive oil on the other hand has had a ton of amazing information and clinical studies… Cleveland Clinic researchers have demonstrated – for the first time – that targeting microbes in the gut may prevent heart disease brought on by nutrients contained in a diet rich in red meat, eggs and high-fat dairy products. This novel approach centers around the research team’s previous discovery that TMAO, a byproduct formed in the gut during digestion of animal fats – is linked to atherosclerosis which is plaque buildup, and heart disease. They identified a naturally occurring inhibitor called DMB that is found in some cold-pressed extra virgin olive oils and grapeseed oils – that reduced levels of TMAO and reduced atherosclerosis in mice. So truly what you eat can be the biggest way to keep your cells functioning well, and our receptors activating in a way that is aligned to receiving.

Slide Eleven: We each are receptors of the energy of the universe. Arguably, the connection between the gut and the brain is somewhat embedded in our collective unconscious. Expressions such as “gut feeling” are of common usage. Many common idioms using the word “gut” are somehow illustrative of a brain-gut connection: “have the guts” – have courage; “hate someone’s guts” – hate someone, which is basically hating their personality, temper or attitude; “spill one’s guts” – to confess, say what’s on one’s mind; “gut reaction” – a basic and instinctive reaction to something; “butterflies in the stomach” – you know, when you see someone you fancy…Butterflies in the stomach are your microbes shaking in fear of what is coming. There is a truth to the fact that if you do not care of that which is embedded in our collective unconscious, then you indeed are ending the connectivity with any energy that comes your way. The collective unconscious transcends this reality. Every action has and needs an equal and opposite reaction. We receive energy, the energy must go somewhere in order to complete the circuit. This completion of the circuit is the creation of what feeds back into the collective unconscious. Once that energy goes back into the collective unconscious, the cycle repeats indefinitely because each action requires reaction over and over again. There is an infinite ability here to be both receiving and giving. We are receiving information – energy – in a non-linear way. Downloads of energy that open us to feelings or inner sight, inspiring us to creative expression. Gut to brain, energy and life. Live whole and you will find all of these informational pods that are just for you!

Slide Twelve: These 3 daily activities have been scientifically proven to boost brain function. Follow them on a regular basis for best results.

1. Eat well — I will always go to nutrition first! A a nutritional therapist I know we can’t always eat well, nor can we get the similar nutrients due to depleted soil in our large scale producers. I choose organic, or local non-gmo where crops are rotated and for the same reasons I bridge the gap with Juice Plus+ for my clients, and my family.
2. Follow healthy emotions and reduce stress on the cognitive functions with fitness and by building healthy relationships. There is no good that comes out of staying connected to someone for the reasons of “fixing” them. And of course we are made for movement. Our bodies haven’t changed that much ancestrally. If you eat a lot of plants, and you move a lot, you will feel better.
3. Know that you are always receiving as you were made for it. The truth of what you’ll do with that energy is up to you. Take some time every day to drive this home through meditation or meditative behavior. Walking in nature or yoga are two items I like to call meditation in motion. It’s not all about the zeny zen. It’s about that inner connection to opening up the reception for what you are about to receive.

Hello Spring I Update Conference Phoenix 2016

The Spring Juice Plus Conference was off the hook. Let me just start right there. Between the microbiome talk that Mitra gave to our team as well as a masquerade event she put on at an art gallery – with vegan food trucks and gluten-free beer of course!

We learned about how the farm fresh non-gmo produce goes from farm to capsule in just six hours. And how devoted these farmers and our team are to making sure it’s every bit as nutrient dense as it can be. We learned that this company dreams hard, plays hard, gives a lot! So many charitable organizations are getting support from Juice Plus. It’s pretty amazing. However, I realized far to late, as I usually do, that I packed way too much. I need to figure this out before we head over to Scandinavia and Europe.

So we left early to head to Utah so that I could teach a class there. I got to see my family, and my daughter was thrilled to see everyone and pick out a dress for my SIL’s Fall wedding. Unfortunately I thought I was done with bridesmaid style clothing… but I have until September to find myself a Burgundy dress. More reason to get sexier between now and then. We stopped for a few days on the way between Utah and Arizona in Southern California. The Welk’s Resort was amazing. It’s the first time we stayed there, but I don’t think it will be our last.

It was really nice that my family came with me. I don’t like to travel without them. So we went to Legoland, and went swimming, and made some memories because that is what this business provides for us. My Juice Plus Conference ticket was free because of my Fast Track to VF. As well, my earnings paid for our Legoland tickets, and business paid for our resort stay in San Diego. It really made for an amazing trip this year.

Thursday morning bright and early Dr. Mitra Ray gave our team an amazing training on the impact of our nutrition and our gut microbiome. There was so much information that I am going to have to review the recording to really make sure I get it all. The big takeaway is that my IBS (irritable bowel disease)  inflammation was due to my microbiome, or lack of good microbiome. But that we just need to eat for our gut health, and the rest will follow.

Of course the best part was that my husband and my daughter went with me to conference to see why this company means so much to me. We listened to a talk that first night from Olympian and Cancer Survivor, Shannon Miller. Amazing talk to say the least. Interesting that in order to compete she was given Juice Plus as a child, and in order to heal later in life her doctor recommended she go back to Juice Plus.

The next Spring Conference will be held in Anaheim, so I just have to say who wants to write off a trip to Disneyland? (jk… however if you stay a few days longer and visit Disneyland what a fun idea for the family).

Fearless to Brilliance : Real Life Word Of The Year

Last year I carved out the year of being Fearless. I can tell you that it did amazing things for my life from all areas. I learned to say what I wanted to say, without fear. I learned to be who I wanted to be, without fear. So I decided I was going to go into a year of Brilliance this year. I was going to share this intensity of wisdom. However, I have so much I want to share that I have really struggled to pull it all together. You know what I mean? I could work on all of this all day every day of this year. That’s how much information I have in my brain that I’d love to get out and share. So I know that I need to refocus and get a plan.

So I bought a project planner – yes just a plain old paper, old-school planner. First project of course is hitting Sales Coordinator. I am halfway there if I was doing it on my own. But I am doing it with a team, so of course that will get you there faster. My goal is to hit Sales Coordinator by March 31st, 2016 so let’s just say it.

I am a Sales Coordinator with my Juice Plus+ Business on or before March 31st, 2016!

There it’s written in the universal language of manifestation, and so it is!

But then I started looking at all of my other projects. Vitality Reset, it’s done. I have it in my hands and will have it at my Utah classes. However, I am not sure other than events how I will push it out there.

Vitality Reset Barbara ChristensenSecond project: Unraveling the Net. 11857 words and only 37 pages. I keep getting pulled away from it, and it’s one of those writing projects that is very hard to get back to.

Third project: Virtuosoul. This was by far my biggest sellout to date, and now I am really tearing it apart to create something that works for the masses. It’s a monster project. No idea if I will finish before the fall.

So … I am living creatively and going for brilliance … which seems to have set this fire of insanity (or intense brightness as the word seems to bring out) and I am feeling like a NASCAR driver. Fast, furious, going in circles. However I am here.

So there you have where I am at as we’re nearing the end of the second month of the year. How’s your Word Of The Year turning out so far?



New Year, New Word : Word of the Year is Brilliance

Last year I started out my vision with the word “fearless”. I decided it was time to come out from behind my fears because I am a creator. I am inspired by the divine. I color my life vibrantly, and not always within the lines. I am an artist, I dream big, go for it (move ahead), dance!! I am me… and I love who I am!!

I did a lot of growing the year before, and felt that I was taking a step or two backwards… but the truth I came to that day was that I was taking a giant leap forward. And so the year of 2015 began with an entirely authentic desire and belief that there is more that I am going to do this year than any year before. Are you fearless? I am!! What really struck a cord was that I wrote,

Bring it to me universe, I’m ready to take my journey to the next level of brilliance.

Daily meditation is on my mind, and on my plans for this year, because connecting to that higher power and plugging into that light really does make all of the difference. It gives you gratitude for everything around you. If you haven’t tried it, I bet it’s because you are a Type A personality like I am. I just cannot deal with slowing down. That’s why I use a guided meditation. I really need that to do it, and I really really need the mediation.<

What is your word for the year?

I’ve settled on ‘brilliance’ this year!! I’m doing things big, bold and vibrant because there’s nothing like a leap into your soaring desires to get you going in the morning!! And I have this intensely bright knowledge that can heal others. As a soulpreneur it took me a long time to get to that reality that my knowledge is powerful and the universe is just waiting for me to realize it and share it. Mapping out and defining your skills and desires helps, both life and businesses. You have to be aligned because they intertwine so often. So what are you doing to make this difference moving into the new year?

I determined that my motto this year will continue to make sure I “do not waste time” as in wasting time on bad relationships, bad business, bad habits… and as an underlying tone, those really stupid things that I was wasting my time with I will no longer worry about. There are truly too many stupid things that don’t matter that consume our lives.  Last year, I again went into the year with my Heart Chakra wide open expecting to accept all of the amazing infinite possibilities for our life journey.  However what I finally get today, on this new year of brilliance, is that there is a place of having your chakra too wide open where we allow our personal boundaries to be skewed. Instead of giving you voice, it often takes it away.

So this year I am going to be that intense brightness of light with my voice, even if only to laugh, kiss or whisper. I am going to let music back into my life in the best ways. I am going to create unplugged zones, in both time and place.

Also, I give up the external competition. The only competition is with myself to be a better me. I will believe that I am always worthy of the light and manifestation of good things in my life. I will lead as I have been called to this and can do so much good by releasing this idea that I have to play small to keep from hurting the feelings of others. My gift is meant to be shared, not hidden. That doesn’t mean I won’t take some time for myself, because I am worthy of that self love and care as well.

Energy work and yoga are vastly prevalent in my future. Lord help me get through that without putting up my guard. I do honor my feelings, but squashing them doesn’t keep our soul intact. It instead creates voids that are empty and that feeling is something I don’t want to ever honor or nourish to growth.

What’s funny is that my Solar Plexus has been in deep need for most of my life of being honored. And one way we can do that is to be joyful when we poop. I BELIEVE this!! 🙂 In fact when I pooped this morning I thought,

Yes… good riddance to that last of the shit from 2015!!

I know, TMI, but so empowering!!

And glorious plants, you are coming back into my daily life with nourishing water without fear. I let go of the fear that my needs cannot be met with the beautiful bounty of the Earth.

I am going to be vividly alive this year when we talk, and I am going to engage you at a level that you had better be ready for. I am more than the torch, I am the spark – that’s what I know and where I will thrive!!

Remembering 9-11 I Mama Whole Wellness

I think we all remember where we were when the first plane hit the towers, and every moment after that. For me I was far from family, and at my apartment. No community to turn to. Just myself, and my husband, staring at the images and wondering what it meant, and what would come next. Like many of you I spent the next few days just sitting there on my couch watching the images and the replays of the images over and over again. It did something to me, and I never thought about those effects at first. It was evident however, several weeks later, that I was rewired.

My husband and I were in the parking lot of a Home Depot and a plane flew above our heads. I looked from one side to the other and sort of ran about as if I were playing Red Rover. That plane wasn’t going to tag me out. My husband just stood there shaking his head as if to say, “My wife has gone crazy.”

I was a little bit crazy. Post traumatic crazy. I would lock the bedroom door at night, get up 100 times a night and listen, and watch for someone to come into our home to harm us. This was the same time period where my Grandfather’s spirit came to me in the middle of the night. I believe now that he was trying to let me know that I was okay, and I could rest. But I couldn’t rest. As well, my anxiety was natural and connected to something now that was bigger and hard to stop. I still have to remind myself today that I am okay.

So today, I didn’t make any major commitments to my business. I decided to start the day with a guided chakra meditation, and then before lunch I did a simple, short yoga series. Simple, grounding, pure.

I remember the feelings that were created, and still have to work a little bit more with rerouting the pathways that were creating over the week that followed this day all of those years ago. But I am a better person, love my fellow man more, and desire a better world for all of our children because of this and many more events that have happened after this date. I am more globally aware. Yet, today I will look for rainbows, hug my family, and give my most to love! <3 What about you?

Seeds of Success – How Looking Backwards Reminds You Who You Are

Looking Backwards

This morning I was on the computer and looking for something in the old backup server and I came on the old life coaching site from over ten years ago. What a blast from the past. I was doing more business coaching then, and life coaching was more about image coaching rather than that deep sort of program that I use with clients now. But what I found was by looking backwards I found more of myself. Parts of myself that I had forgotten long ago.

I found a page of my old coaching website that was called Seeds Of Success and I wanted to share it because I think we are so quick to be hard on ourselves within the journey we are on.

Seeds of Success – 

I give thanks for this day. I know that I have not yet accomplished all that I can and if that is the reason I am bathed in the fresh dew of another dawn, I am most grateful. I am prepared at last to face today’s challenges.

I will forget yesterday with all of its trials and tribulations, aggravations and setbacks, angers and frustrations. The past is already a dream from which I can neither retrieve a single word nor erase any foolish deeds.

I will resolve, however, that if I have injured anybody through my thoughtlessness, I will not let this day end before I make amends and nothing I do today will be of greater importance.

I will not fret the future. My success and happiness do not depend on straining to see what lurks dimly on the horizon but to do this day what lies clearly at hand. I will treasure this day for it is all I have. I know that its rushing hours cannot be accumulated or stored like precious grain for future use.

I will live as all good actors do when they are on stage, only in the moment. I cannot perform at my best today by regretting my previous acts mistakes or worrying about the scene to come.

I will embrace today’s difficult tasks, take off my coat and make dust in the world. I will remember that the busier I am the less harm I am apt to suffer, the tastier will be my food, the sweeter my sleep and the better satisfied I will be with my place in the world.

I will free myself today from slavery to the clock and calendar. Although I will plan this day to conserve my steps and energy, I will begin to measure my life in deeds not years, in thoughts not seasons, in feelings not figures on a dial.

I will remain aware of how little it takes to make this a happy day. Never will I pursue happiness because it is in not a goal just a by product and there is no happiness in having or getting only in giving.

I will run from no danger I might encounter today, because I am sure that nothing will happen that I am not equipped to handle. Just as any gem is polished by friction, I am certain to become more valuable through this day’s adversity and if one door closes, another will always open.

I will live this day as if it were Christmas, I will be a giver of gifts and deliver to my enemies the gift of forgiveness, my opponents tolerance, my friends a smile, my children a good example. Every gift will be wrapped with unconditional love.

I will waste not even a precious second today in anger or hate or jealousy or selfishness. I know that the seeds I sow I will harvest because every action good or bad is always followed by an equal reaction. I will only plant good seeds this day.

I will treat today as a priceless violin. One may draw harmony from it and another discord, yet no one will blame the instrument. Life is the same in that if I play it correctly it will give forth beauty, but if I play it ignorantly it will produce ugliness.

I will condition myself to look at every problem that I encounter today as no more than a pebble in my shoe. I remember the pain so harsh I could hardly walk and recall my surprise when I removed my shoe and found only a grain of sand.

I will work convinced that nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm. To do anything today that is truly worth doing I must not stand back shivering and thinking of the cold and danger but jump in with gusto and scramble through as well as I can.

I will face this world with goals set for this day, but they will be attainable ones not the vague, impossible variety declared by those who make a career of failure. I realize that life always tries me with a little first to see what I will do with a lot.

I will never hide my talents. If I am silent I am forgotten. If I do not advance I will fall back. If I walk away from any challenge today my self-esteem will be forever scarred. If I cease to grow even a little I will become smaller. I reject the stationary position because it is the beginning of the end.

I will keep a smile on my face and in my heart even when it hurts today. I know that the world is a looking glass and gives back to me the reflection of my own soul. Now I understand the secret of correcting the attitude of others and that is to correct my own.

I will turn away from any temptation today that may cease me to break my word or lose my self-respect. I am positive that the only thing I possess more valuable than my life is my honor.

I will work this day with all my strength content in the knowledge that life does not consist of wallowing in the past or peering anxiously at the future.

It is appalling to contemplate the great number of painful steps by which one arrives at a truth so old so obvious and so frequently expressed. Whatever it offers little or much, my life is now!

I will pause whenever I am feeling sorry for myself today and remember that this is the only day that I have and I must play it to the fullest. What my part may signify in the great whole I may not recognize but I am here to play it, and now is the time. I will count this day a separate life. I will remember that those who have fewest regrets are those who take each moment as it comes for all that it is worth.

This is my day, These are my seeds. Thank you for this precious garden of time…

I have been teaching others through my Nourished In 30 program for the last year – and I have met some amazing people that live their own nutritional “paleo” truth. And so I was so excited to finally have my program on Kindle. YAY!!

I feel like there are enough “recipers” out there that this isn’t a recipe book, although I do include a few very simple recipes. This is an information book. It’s exactly what I teach my clients about nutrition and how it impact their wellness. It is meant to be both physically healing and emotionally healing because if you’ve ever done a program like this you know that you are going to be pulling up emotions. They go hand in hand. It is why there are so many emotional eaters. We too often connect our food to our souls. And unless you are creating amazing recipes and open fantastic restaurants, connecting food to your soul is a very bad thing.

So what I wanted to do was share something that would educate, give you some good cleansing results, and also help you come out the other side feeling like you’ve learned something amazing that you will take into the rest of your life. I want to make sure you read labels, and think about epigenetics, and I also want it to be easy. So I hope that I created all of those things. Pear and Chia Coconut Pancakes, a Grain-Free Vegetarian Paleo Yum Fest


Pear and Chia Coconut Pancakes:

Who doesn’t love something sweet for breakfast… or lunch… or dinner!!!??


2 large pastured egg, beaten
3/4 cup non-dairy unsweetened vanilla milk (I prefer hemp milk)
2 tbsp chia seeds
1 tbsp honey (optional)
2 ripe medium pears, grated
1 scoop vegan protein (great for added nutrients but optional)
1/2 cup coconut flour (add additional tbsp if you find they aren’t holding together to your liking)
1/8 tsp salt
2 tsp baking powder (aluminum-free)
1/4 tsp baking soda
2 tbsp coconut oil, melted


1. In a medium bowl, beat the egg for 30 seconds. Add milk, chia seeds and honey, and mix. Set aside for chia seeds to soak up the liquid a bit. This is what will hold your pancakes together with the pears so don’t get cheap on the timing.
2. In another small bowl, grate you pears. Use the larger holed section on your grater. Compost your cores. Add to the liquid mix (including juice). Mix.

3. Add flour, salt, baking powder & baking soda, and mix to combine.

4. Melt your coconut oil in microwave and add to the batter. Mix in well/
5. Preheat your skillet to medium, I love my green ceramic skillet!! Spray with coconut oil spray, and before each additional pancake.

6. Pour 1/3 cup of batter onto skillet.. Cook until surface of pancakes have some bubbles, 3 to 4 minutes. Flip carefully with a thin spatula, and cook until browned on the underside, 2 to 3 minutes more. I found mine really needed that four minutes to solidify nicely.

7. Serve warm, with desired toppings like some fresh mashed fruit or preserves with no added additional sugars.

it’s a perfect amount of pancakes for myself and my daughter if we are eating these for a meal. If you add my husband into the mix, this becomes a side dish. You get the jest. Makes about 6 pancakes.
