Your Thyroid Is Low – But Your Level Is Normal

Your Thyroid Is Low

You know it, because you feel it. But let me share with you that “Normal” is just the opposite. This last week I had my annual exam. I brought my blood test results and cortisol tests because you know if I were in an accident, the person they are going to go to for your medical records is the primary care physician. I don’t like the idea of working with the left hand, and the right hand has no idea what you are doing.

Paleo Vegeo I Barbara Christensen I Adding My Supplements to My Medical Sheet

She looked at every test result and said, “Well it all was in normal range.” as well as, “I don’t like to give women testosterone because you could start losing your hair, getting a mustache.” >>> OMG!! o_0 Did I hear you correctly?

You see there is a reality beyond the “normal” numbers that they teach in medical school. I’m thankful that the doctor I have been going to for testing my blood work was able to read the results and know what was wrong with me. I’m thankful that she cares enough about her clients to heal them. Now, follow me on this whole crazy notion… who do you think goes into the labs to get tested? Sick people. If a lab creates its “normal” range based on test results from sick people, is that really a normal range? Does that tell us anything about what the range should be for health? This is why I want to learn more, and help more people. This week the general physician told me that all of my prior tests were “normal”. So that’s why I now feel so much better… I just went out and got WEIRD!! I prefer weird then, give me the bioidentical, super food weirdness any day of the week. Are you with me?

My Thyroid Was Low

Paleo Vegeo I Barbara Christensen I My Thyroid Was Low
Did you know that truly scientists believe that up to 40% of the population are effected by low thyroid levels. My levels apparently are “normal”, but not by Dr. Tami’s levels. What seems to be the norm is that a doctor may put you on Thyroid pills, probably not compounded, which we know is better used by the body. When they test you they’ll see after adding thyroid supplementation your TSH level is low, which means too much thyroid. That is only because you are being supplemented. A doctor that has not had the appropriate will think you are on too much thyroid and lower your dosage. Here’s the thing.. you would know if you had too much thyroid in your system. You’d suddenly start seeing hand tremors, racing heart beats, and quick weight loss.

Since I had my blood work done about six months ago I’ve been feeling better every day. In fact I’m starting to wake up early again, and not horribly tired all day. I am working out again, mostly hitting the yoga mat and some weight lifting, but it feels BLISSFUL!!

So let me share what my test results were, I don’t know if it will be helpful to you, or anyone else. I shared it recently on my Facebook page, and hopefully you’ll realize that just because one doctor says your levels look fine, you can keep searching for someone that knows that you do need supplementation.

How my levels were

Ferritin (which is our stored iron) was 8. It should be 90 or higher. Ferritin is the fuel for the entire hormonal system so let’s say you are taking thyroid but seeing no results. It could be because you have low ferritin. I started with 1 iron supplement a day, and each week increased another until I got up to 4 capsules a day. I’m not taking the Food Based New Chapter Iron. I take the iron with the Whole Foods Acerola Chewable Vitamin C 500 mg – 2 with it, and 1 later in the day.

My Thyroid was TSH 2.680 and Triiodothyronine, Free was 3.0. I was put on 15 mg of Armour initially and then increased after 30 days to 30 mg of Armour.

My Free Testosterone was 0.3 – I do 1.5 ml of yam based testosterone cream a day.

My Progesterone was 4.3 – I do a pediatric dose of compounded progesterone (regular progesterone pills have peanut proteins in them) each night until a couple days before my period.

My estrogen was great, she recommended taking DHEA but it gave me major zit face. So I stopped. My vitamin D was 30.0 – I started with 5,000 IU a day, went up to 10,000 IU a day and am now back to 5,000 IU a day. It should also be up at about 100.

I did the ZRT Laboratory Cortisol spit test. The results are easy to read and you can order this test from Amazon to do on your own, or go through True Health or your local doctor’s office. Shows you exactly when you are low or high – which of course is exactly what you need to do for using any supplementation. I take 1/2 of the Cortisol Manager each night at bed time since that is when my cortisol was low.

The last few weeks I’ve started doing a full vegan plant based food nutrient complex, cellular vitality complex each day. I am now also doing the detox blend twice a day – morning and evening. Cleansing is an important component of preparing for pregnancy. Fertility cleansing consists of supporting the livers natural ability to cleanse itself as well as supporting uterine health and circulation. This in turn supports hormonal health and encourages a healthy uterine environment. I did a cleanse several months ago, and then did last month a 10 day cleanse as soon as I got back from vacation because I was pooped, I was craving nothing but sugar all day long.

Also this detox and the other whole food and cellular supplements I can take for prenatal throughout pregnancy, so that make me feel great if I get pregnant. I was told it could help with decreasing nausea taking the detox supplementation. I’ve seen the recommendation of using the 100% whole food Baby and Me from Mega Food but I am taking the B supplement below and so I don’t want too much Folic because it’s been linked to asthma in the first trimester if you have too high of amounts – so that is another reason why I feel better about taking the whole food nutrient supplement I have chosen.

I do the Stress-B-Plus capsule and then for the selenium I’m doing Ecological Formulas Kelp. It has great levels of selenium, very bioavailable and has the iodine and kelp. Contains no corn, soy, yeast, etc.

I use essential oils, and a lot of women should think about it. I’ve had quite a few friends using a blend of essential oils and these while doing IVF. The one I like is a proprietary blend of 11 Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade essential oils including clary sage, lavender, bergamot, Roman chamomile, cedarwood, ylang ylang, geranium, fennel, carrot seed, palmarosa, and vitex.

I’m now doing clary sage and geranium with fractionated coconut oil daily. I have a few blog posts on different essential oils.

The recommendation is to not apply at the same time you do your iron. So I usually do this when I take my thyroid pill. The blend that was shared for those with PCOS was:

10 drops of clary-sage essential oil
10 drops of fennel essential oil
7 drops of geranium essential oil
3 drops of rose essential oil

Option 1: Add these amounts to 2 tablespoons of EVOO or Coconut oil and gently rub over the abdomen
once a day.

Option 2: Make the synergistic blend using these proportions and use 6 drops to a bath.

Option 3: Make the blend and use 5 drops synergistic blend to 1 teaspoon EVOO or Coconut oil or place in a vegetable capsule and take internally.

After reading more I determined that since my whole food complex has rose hips and fennel, I just use the clary sage and geranium oil externally every day – but instead of the abdomen I apply to the adrenal zone. Then I’m taking the metabolic blend oils just 5 drops under my tongue about five times a day. It helps with blood sugars during pregnancy and reduces anxiety, so it can be taken while trying to conceive and not be feared as something horrible to take if you do get pregnant. It helps your body to have a healthy insulin response, reduces oxidation and inflammation, reduces cholesterol, improves digestion and increases your energy. It does seem to help.

That’s been my only concern during this process, the what if I were to get pregnant. The only concern I would have is to stop the testosterone cream because it could increase the male hormones in a female embryo. But that’s the only item I’m taking that I feel I have to worry about at all.

I hope that within the next year I’ll be able to drop the thyroid supplementation as I’ve fixed the dietary issues. A lower carb diet, healthy real foods, good sources of omega-3’s, ferritin levels getting up to normal, vitamins and minerals should correct the problem.

One note: I am not in need of estrogen, but I’ve read that you should not take oral estrogen with oral thyroid. The oral estrogen binds T4 so it cannot convert usable T3, which would make you more hypothyroid. Just FYI as you are working on your own endocrine system balance.

Hormone Contributing to the Unhealthy Way You Feel, For Women And Men

Hormone Contributing to the Unhealthy Way You Feel, and what it does to your life.

Paleo Vegeo I Barbara Christensen I Supplements for Hormone SupportI started working on hormones a few months ago, about four actually. I can make it through the day now, when I couldn’t before. My life has become this weirdness of supplements and creams and timed pills. I’m now to a point where I’m going to push even more to fit in more of the natural changes to get rid of some of the supplements, more nutrition, and more essential oils. It’s crazy to think of how far I’ve come in this. So have hope that you will get better, but it does cycle. Good days, AMAZINGLY good days are often a sign of an upcoming crash. Keep up the work and be hopeful for your health.Let me tell you my opinion (nothing on my website as you’ve read is a medical diagnostic or claim of a cure. I am not a doctor) just what I’ve found through this process.

Here are some insights on hormones that I’ve read up on:

Out of whack hormones are the culprit behind so much disease–type 2 diabetes in particular. Some indicators are;

  • persistent weight gain
  • loss of muscle mass
  • low libido
  • fatigue
  • anxiety, irritability, depression (omegas/essential fatty acids also reduce bad cholesterol which contribute.)
  • insomnia (lavender, slim and sassy to calm adrenals.)
  • excessive sweating
  • digestive issues (digestive enzymes and probiotics can help)
  • food cravings

This was a huge red flag for me before having the five vials of blood drawn and tested. The fatigue for me had gotten so bad that I some nights could not drive home from picking my husband up. I had to have him drive because I was ready to just fall asleep at the wheel. My weight kept going up regardless of the workouts I was doing, and I couldn’t sleep through the night. Don’t even get me started on the cravings… it’s really been a huge change to deal with for someone like me that was always healthy and never dealt with weight before my daughter was born.

I didn’t realize I was moving into that place where I was at the hormone inhibitor UNHAPPY zone: Hormone inhibitors are;

  • age (I’m 45)
  • poor diet (I ate JUNK when I was pregnant and for the first 18 months after in part to trying to conform to Suburban life)
  • oxidation
  • xenoestrogens (fake estrogen caused by pretty much everything bad around us—Phytoestrogen supplement helps eliminate xenoestrogens and it is adaptogenic to balance estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone.)
  • inflammation (this one is chronic for me)
  • stress (Let’s see… miscarriage, pregnancy, lay off, move, job change, move… lots of illnesses for my daughter)
  • sedentary lifestyle (Went from nothing to something, but for a while it really wasn’t enough)
  • environmental toxins

High estrogen—even fake xenoestrogens push down your progesterone to be low. I take a pediatric does of progesterone now because I have lots of allergies to the things you can take to support your progesterone. Things that help bring up your progesterone are; whole seeds and nuts, avocado, leafy greens, yams. I’m using some supplementals with both thyme and oregano essential oils in them, and using geranium essential oil which really should be a must have oil for any woman or man dealing with hormone imbalance. In fact I recommend you rub 1-2 drops of the thyme and oregano with a few drops of FCO (fractionated coconut oil) on the bottom of the feet daily. Do not over-use oregano! Use daily for 10 days, and then give your system a rest. I also use just a dab of geranium with my aluminum-free deodorant. In fact Geranium and Cypress are an amazing combination to dab after you’ve done the deodorant. I use the Kiss My Face Sport. Geranium has this sweet floral smell but also has astringent and antiseptic properties. And the Cypress helps reduce excessive sweating. And if you’ve moved into the “aluminum-free” you know that sweating can be a problem on those hot days. Enough said. You’ll thank me for that tip if not all others.

Some other oils that help with the whole endocrine system are: citrus oils (think lemon oil in the morning), ylang ylang, Roman Chamomile, Serenity, Balance, Elevation, Frankincense, Lavender, Conifer Oils. I use daily for specifically my adrenals Basil and Rosemary. there is also another great blend that is great for those PMS/PMSD symptoms.

Essential Oils for menopause symptoms;

Hot flashes – Peppermint, Geranium, Citrus oils, Clary Sage
Fatigue – Ginger, Peppermint, White Fir
Libido – Ylang Ylang, Ginger, Peppermint,  Clary Sage

Many studies Indicate the benefit of EO’s to protect DNA and reverse DNA damage—-DDR Prime is a great supplement for that, and as I get into the protocols in the next few months remember this. And also you have to really boost that glutathione level back to where it’s supposed to be. Glutathione is truly the most critical and integral part of your detoxification system and to get rid of those xenoestrogens this is your travel agent, Can you see the importance of having enough Glutathione in the system?

Glutathione elevation is aided by;
Undenatured Whey Protein (WAVSmart)
D-limonene (Grapefruit and Wild Orange oils, metabolic oils are a great tool for this)
Exercise – Yoga, Walking, Strength Training and HIITS

These tools and ideas are so related to men as well. Men suffer at the same rates these days as women with hormone imbalances. Hormones are balanced when we have our deficiencies corrected. For women it’s usually iron, but for men it’s usually zinc. Also for both it’s bad diet, obesity, and those darn xenoestrogens. Also for those men that like to drink, alcohol converts testosterone to estrogen which is why men that drink more often get man boobs. If you are vegetarian and add in soy milk… dude you are in trouble! So keep in mind that phytoestrogen is even great for men! A good supplement pack is something I recommend for most men. More so than women they often are getting even less nutrients and minerals during the day.

So what does a hormone balancing day of meals look like now?

For Breakfast it’s something like collard greens in coconut oil, side of berries and a protein shake with added Maca powder. (capsule dumped in because the air corrupts the maca, so don’t buy bags of it.) Lunch is a green salad with either some salmon or other lean protein and added omegas, an apple sliced with some pumpkin or squash puree with cinnamon in it. Then dinner is a sweet potato or other root vegetables, some selenium rich crab and salsa.

This of it like this:

Breakfast: {Eat Like A Queen}
Lunch: {Eat Like A Princess}
Dinner: {Eat Like The Pauper}

Follow the 40/30/30. That’s where I was actually most successful before in life because I was following the Zone. But the Zone for most people still has too many of the bad carbs, the bad fats and the bad red meats. Think of this like the Paleo Vegeo Balanced version. Keep watching for more protocol information and more info on how this relates to so many other problems we are facing in our current social model of health.

Pregnancy, Children and Mercury Toxicity and How To Avoid It

Pregnancy, Children and Mercury Toxicity

Pregnancy, Children and Mercury Toxicity I Barbara Christensen I Paleo Vegeo

Wow… amazing moment. You realize you are pregnant. Let’s celebrate. Get the family together. Have a celebration, maybe some cake and ice cream.

YOU… have just introduced your little seedling to many new toxins, including High Fructose Corn Syrup.

What? HFCS is not a toxin, it’s just not the greatest ingredient.

This is where we are dead wrong.

For most of my life having been educated early on corn due to my allergies, I have know that high-fructose corn syrup is a big offender in our society. It’s the major culprit in the nation’s obesity crisis, it’s cheap so used frequently and we all had it in our favorite treats, as well as our regular foods throughout most of our lives. In 2009 there were two studies done and almost half of tested samples of commercial high-fructose corn syrup contained mercury, which was also found in nearly a third of 55 popular brand-name food and beverage products where corn syrup is the first- or second-highest labeled ingredient. This study was requested by the FDA according to files on the iatp.org site, and yet I’ve not seen a recall on using HFCS in the United States.

How scary is that?

Now given that a single vaccine with mercury in it given to a six-pound newborn is the equivalent of giving a 180-pound adult 30 vaccinations on the same day, what do you think giving your body, and that little fetus mercury every day is doing to their development. And then to our children as they have not fully developed their immune system until about age six. Mercury can be the cause of cerebral palsy, limb defects and mental retardation.{Lanphear, Vorhees & Bellinger 2005}

So how toxic are we?

A report on Yahoo that I recently read stated:

The United States, as just one example, emits about 100 metric tons of mercury into the air each year because we use coal as a fuel source to create the power we need. The National Wildlife Federation has released warnings which state that mercury contamination has reached almost every habitat and ecosystem, stream, river and wetland in our country. More than 40 species of animals, fish and birds have been found to have high levels of mercury in their systems.

Recently there was some research done with just nine women from California, Oregon and Washington. It was a first of it’s kind. These women had blood and urine samples taken during their second trimester of pregnancy.

They measured levels of five chemical groups: phthalates, mercury, perfluorinated compounds or bisphenol A, tetrabromobisphenol A. The results showed that even in the womb, children aren’t safe from known toxics. The researchers found 13 toxic chemicals in the bio-fluids of the pregnant women. Our bodies can detox on it’s own, but with the overwhelming toxins I really believe we need to do more to support our system, and stay away from these items as we are caring for ourselves, our child and share this information with others.

So how can you do this? One way is to supplement with detoxifying healthy, safe food ingredients throughout your pregnancy, I’ve also had friends go through the reset during pregnancy. During this they of course checked with their OGBYN to see if it was something approved. They used the men’s portions, continued to eat the brown rice and quinoa {again if you are not eating any grains – then you would need to talk to your doctor about an appropriate substitute to use for this program} throughout the 21 days and did not dip below 1400 calories at any time. Also the “detox” supplement wasn’t used. I personally if working with a client would also recommend not using the Soothe during pregnancy because of the curcumin in it, although it’s a small amount, I still wouldn’t risk it. The wonderful thing is that you can give your body nutrition and give your baby (and family if you are cooking for more than yourself) such a rainbow of food that is nourishing and also keeps those cravings for the toxic filled foods at bay. Educate yourself and learn how healthy you can your baby and children can be.

Baby Medication Causes Greater Risks of Asthma

Baby Medication Causes Greater Risk Of Asthma Research in the UK says

I read a really interesting article about the UK based medication for children, called Calpol. Over the last 50 years the increase in asthma cases of children has continued to grow. In fact in the UK it has doubled! An I can tell you that despite everything I’ve done for my daughter, she also suffered with asthma – and it was very frustrating to me. So what is Calpol? Calpol is made by Johnson & Johnson, and is acetaminophen. Sound familiar? Here in the United States we give our children something similar called Tylenol. They found that if your child received this medication just once a month they would be 5 times more likely to have asthma. FIVE TIMES!!

The children that has even one dose anytime before their first birthday were 60% more at risk of asthma, the European Journal of Public Health found. How many of you have given your baby Tylenol before receiving any of the four times they are given a vaccine during their first year?

Why does this baby medication cause this asthmatic risk?

I believe, like many experts this is due to the depletion of your glutathione by acetaminophen. If you keep your glutathione levels up, the damage from the Tylenol may be largely preventable.

“Glutathione detoxifies acetaminophen, but once glutathione is depleted there can be significant cell death in the liver [THE AMERICAN JOURNAL OF MEDICINE; Flanagan,RJ; 91(Suppl C):131S-139S (1991)].

I took my daughter off of dairy (except undenatured whey) several years ago, and her asthmatic issues really improved. In fact, our commercially short pasteurized high temp processed milk has 30% less whey protein than raw milk, and the regular pasteurized and homogenized has 87% less…  which reduces the glutathione boosting benefits. Eating (drinking) dietary glutathione protects our lungs from oxidative assault. If you aren’t eating properly during breastfeeding, or giving your child formula they are missing out on this. My daughter struggled to nurse (did you see my article on healthy nursing supplementation), and at that time I was drinking a lot of regular milk. It caused her a lot of tummy issues, and at the time there were so few non-dairy options that were not allergens for me… so we wanted to do goat’s milk, and the doctor’s eventually talked us into expensive formula… so that is what my baby got. And that is what I believe played into her having severe asthma that required her to be on 6 puffs of inhaled steroids a day… until we got rid of the large amount of commercial dairy products she was drinking.

We now do some raw goat’s milk, undenatured whey and she has been fine with that. But I would have loved to have had all of that information all of those years ago when I was first pregnant.

Specific Healing Results with NutrEval Testing and Following Your Metabolic Needs

Specific Healing Results with NutrEval Testing

Nutritional Testing for Supplementation for Metabolic Type Diet Dr Oz I CPT Barbara ChristensenThere has been a lot of talk lately about Metabolic Types (and even segments on Dr. Oz about The Metabolic Type Diet) and how to eat and live for your personal metabolic needs, and I completely agree with to a point. What you eat is personal, but you have to know more than just the foods that you are going to eat – and what type you are. You have to know about all of the other essentials that have a huge impact on your body and your health. And without all of the knowledge you will keep hitting the wall as you are struggling to get to that next level of health.
I’ve become fully aware the last few years about just how a vitamin or supplemental shake can do for you to help you feel better and prevent illness, but the supplements in one shake are not always the right one for you. I was talking to someone about another line of shakes the other day, and switching was going to be a bad idea because metabolically speaking she needed the specific blend or endocrine supplementation that the original shake was giving her. Why waste your money on something that doesn’t work for you. You know what works and what doesn’t sometimes, but with the NutrEval test, you can find exact answers to your health questions. NutrEval can help you achieve optimal he a alth beyond just feeling better. This test panel includes several comprehensive tests that will give you that ability to make all of your health dreams come true!

What tests do they run and how does the NutrEval Testing Results Get Understood

When you get testing from the doctor’s office it can be really hard to understand, and they don’t always go over what you need for optimal healthy change. If you take a look at a generic lab result of the NutrEval test you can see that what you will get is something easy to understand, and then you can start implementing changes very quickly.

Amino Acid Test

Amino acids are vital for optimal health. They are the body_s basic building blocks and are responsible for the health of bone and muscle. Balance is critical for proper nerve function, detoxification, metabolism, and digestion. When amino acids are too high or low, they can cause fatigue, increased heart disease risk, and promote depression, anxiety and mood swings. Once identified with the NutrEval, imbalances can be corrected, helping to prevent many chronic illnesses before they can cause lasting damage. This NutrEval test amino acids in the blood.

Omega 3, 6, and Other Fatty Acids Test

Fatty acids are essential to the construction of cell membranes. Too little or too much fat can cause health problems. Reduced levels of certain fats can result in depression, hyperactivity, numbness and tingling in the hands and feet, as well as early senility. In addition, pregnant and lactating mothers should have their fatty acids tested to ensure their children receive the fats needed for proper brain and nerve development. Measurement is the only means to determine your individual needs.

Mineral and Heavy Metal Testing

Minerals in our body serve two functions: one being that they are the building blocks, second being that they are regulators of our body_s processes. Many of these minerals are derived supplements. Some minerals can even be toxic. Magnesium, copper and manganese are beneficial. If proper amounts are not obtained, problems such as joint pain, weight problems, depressed libido, depression, or anxiety can occur. On the other hand, exposure to mercury, lead, arsenic or other heavy metals can be harmful, causing fatigue, emotional disturbances, even kidney failure. Laboratory testing can provide valuable information about your health.

Antioxidant Test

Antioxidants are protective molecules that reduce free radical damage or oxidative stress. Free radicals are naturally occurring compounds in our body that can cause severe injury to cells. Low levels of antioxidants lessen your protection from these harmful compounds. Antioxidants are essential for the body_s ability to protect against free radicals, and for healthy function of the neurological, endocrine, and immune systems. Oxidative stress is linked to premature aging, heart disease, neurological diseases, and chronic fatigue syndrome. Lab tests can assess equilibrium between oxidative stress and antioxidant protection.

Hot Flashes, Hypothyroidism and the Leaky Gut Instead of Menopause

Hot Flashes … could it be hypothyroidism instead of menopause?

Hot Flashes, Hypothyroidism and the Leaky Gut Instead of Menopause I Barbara Christensen I Ocean Avenue Founding Ambassador

So many people don’t realize that hypothyroidism isn’t just about being cold all of the time. Many dealing with this are misdiagnosed with menopause for those flushing, sweating, heat intolerance, heart palpitations, and sleeplessness symptoms. This often mistaken illness really is effecting more women than we realize. In thyroid insufficiency, the reduced basal metabolic activity is what is causing that, so you need to support your metabolism. Also if you are still thinking about kids, it causes reduced folic absorption, so make sure you are getting enough folic via both nutrition and supplementation. All of this can lead to the reduced clearance of toxins by the liver, and so that is a big part of why people feel better in such a short time when using the WAVSmart (Whey Smart) JM Ocean Avenue Supplement.

For this condition what is recommended is amino acids, fatty acids, co-enzymes and other raw materials needed to support the thyroid. I would personally also recommend you get some Ashwaganda into your diet. I like the Nature’s Way supplement, and it can be had for under $10. Anyone taking Invigorate should also think about incorporating this because they have compounds that stimulate T3 and T4 synthesis. If you’ve watched Franco’s talk about Invigorate and the T3 and T4 functions it’s pretty amazing.  Our thyroid hormones strongly influence the tight junctions in the stomach and small intestine – also known as our digestive brain. T3 and T4 have been shown to protect gut mucosal lining from stress induced ulcer formation. In another study, endoscopic examination of gastric ulcers found low T3, low T4 and abnormal levels of reverse T3.

What Does Leaky Gut Have To Do With Hypothyroidism?

Leaky Gut And Healing Hypothyroidism with Ocean Avenue Trim Pack from Founding Ambassador Barbara Christensen

And guess what… you don’t get huge digestive issues or leaky gut issues until your glutathione stores are depleted. Why? The doctors at the San Jose Functional Medicine office say, “Glutathione is the main antioxidant that protects cellular mitochondria. Glutathione exists in reduced (GSH) and oxidized (GSSG) states. GSH (reduced glutathione) becomes GSSG (oxidized glutathione) by an enzyme called glutathione peroxidase. GSH can be regenerated from GSSG by the enzyme glutathione reductase. As long as these enzymes are working efficiently, your body is able to maintain this glutathione recycling system and you are fine.”

So think about what’s going on in your system if you a) have a failing T3 and T4 function, and b) your glutathione levels are depleted? It’s clear that you really cannot have that healthy gut without a healthy thyroid, and you can’t have a healthy thyroid without a healthy gut. An unhealthy gut has been linked to diseases ranging from autism and depression to autoimmune conditions like Hashimoto’s, inflammatory bowel disease and type 1 diabetes…. and so you know what that is going to be doing to you.

I would recommend you try out the Ocean Avenue Trim Pack and see how you feel using the WAVSmart with the Invigorate, and perhaps add in the Ashwaganda. Hippocrates said: “All disease begins in the gut.” 2,500 years later we’re just beginning to understand how right he was. The support you are going to get from the shake will really make some changes to your gut, along with the T3 and T4 I think will give you something you’ve been looking for.

Nutrional Supplementation supporting our DNA, Vitality and overall Health using essential oils and whole foods

Supplementation supporting our DNA, Vitality and overall Health using essential oils and whole foods

Athlete, Nutritionist & Exercise Physiologist Melissa Guthrie, teaches us about the key points of why you need supplementation in your nutrition.
In a perfect world you would eat mostly plants, very clean foods and get all of the nutrients you need from your food. But most of us do not have that ability. And many things we consume are not highly dense nutritionally, but we need to start learning how to fill in those gaps.

I love using nutritional supplementation to get that gap filled in. I use Shakeology and WAVSmart for these reasons, but I am such a fan on making sure you are getting the essential fatty acids, bioavailabile nutrition, minerals and cellular energy. That is where  a complex supplement pack comes into play.

Basic Supplementation Support

You know that I use essential oils in my life a lot. Right now my morning capsule of lavender, lemon and peppermint allows me to go outdoors without dying from the pollen. I am a girl that should live in a bubble with all of my allergies, and my environmental allergies are huge! I have learned to use nature to heal myself, and real foods are the foundation, essential oils come from these real foods and plants.

Also the supplements I use come from real whole foods. And at a cellular level we’ve seen some clinically supported benefits like: healing digestive issues, bone and joint pain subsiding, depression and other neurological problems getting better, boosted metabolism… all because of the way that these supplements work within the cells of our bodies.  Silymarin Polyphenol is one of the amazing items in this product, it’s a powerful free-radical scavenger and supports Glutathione levels in the liver!! You know I talk A LOT about glutathione, and this is just one more way you can support that in your daily routine. And it should be a routine that you are using in your daily life. Fitness, Nutrition, Supplementation, Rest, Happiness!

Take a short time to watch this webinar, and learn a little bit about what is happening inside and outside of your body, and what you can do to live a longer, healthier life. I believe very strongly that essential oils are going to help me as I continue to age. I’ll be 45 this year, and I feel like I’m in my 30’s… and in fact often times people believe I’m in my late 20’s or early 30’s. That’s health. Health = Life!

Look, Feel, Live Younger Longer

How To Easily Start Composting

How To Easily Start Composting

Last year I bought an indoor kitchen composter from Drugstore.com and EcoSafe Plastics. A great way to take the “yuk” out of composting food scraps. This small, convenient kitchen composter is the perfect shape to accommodate plate-scraping, has a snap-latch lid to keep odors in, is dishwasher safe for cleaning, and even a handle for easy carrying to your compost bin. Get this + EcoSafe bags – and you’re all set! I bought the composter and bags thinking it would be easier to keep clean. Now this great 2 gallon composter is just sitting on my kitchen counter, without a smell even though it’s filled with the last week of scraps out of my kitchen.
Another reason I choose this product is that the company is involved with the new Seattle Food Waste Collection Project which I think is something every community should do. There are just so many things that Seattle is doing right, I love most of the directions that this great “emerald” green city is taking. Seattle’s food and yard waste collection service reduces garbage, saves landfill space, and reduces landfill methane (a potent greenhouse gas). The collected materials are processed into compost and used on local parks and gardens. Did you know that over 25% of the greenhouse gases produced by the United States comes from food waste landfill methane? So by doing a small thing like composting you can make a cheap difference in the world. And the great thing is that if you live in Seattle, and you have an urban farm, you can opt out of the city compost project and just compost for your own plants.
So after buying my little kitchen I wanted to get the larger outdoor compost unit, but they are expensive. After a little research I found a new fun blog, The Frugal Girl. Now that’s my kind of girl! She has a great post on a lovely frugal $6.00 outdoor large composter created by using a drill and a rubbermaid container. It may seem odd, but that was the best composter, for the least amount of money you could make. The compost was better than you could have ever imagined – and the soil that came out of it was used to create an amazing garden. Don’t just think that you can’t find budget solutions to living a healthier, more eco-friendly  life.

Recommendations For Insulin Resistance and PreDiabesity

Insulin Resistance and PreDiabesity

Insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome, prediabesity and the obesity epidemic is hitting our nation hard. It isn’t just office workers, or folks that could care less about themselves. It’s effecting moms, grandmas, teachers, and even our children. Beyond what this blood sugar rush is doing to all of us, it’s slowly killing all of us.

That’s where some of my favorite supplement ingredients come into play. Think WellTrim IG, Inositol, Green Tea Leaf Extract and Chromium to name a few.

Think about leptin, that master hormone that is secreted by fat cells to signal the brain about levels of fat in the body. Ideally this hormone balances out your blood sugar, but also it keeps you satiated, controls your appetite and starts that good thermogenesis going. Welltrim IG

In randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trials Welltrim IG led to significant reductions in weight, body fat, and waist size and improved cardiovascular health, blood sugar balance, and overall metabolic wellness. Using WellTrim also increased levels of adiponectin, driving thermogenesis even more, and helps inhibit glycerol-3-phosphate dehydrogenase, an enzyme that converts blood sugar into fat. How awesome is that?

Inositol is a fundamental part of every cell in yuor body. Inositol can aid in reducing blood levels of cholesterol, reverse nerve damage from diabetes, help breakdown and redistribute body fat, maintain proper levels of the brain’s neurotransmitters, relieve depression, reduce obsessive/compulsive disorder (OCD), lower blood pressure and even help prevent hair loss. How can one nutrient do so much? Because it’s an essential part of how cells communicate with one another.

Like the ever so popular green coffee beans your green tea has thermogenic effects as well. The difference is that they trace back to different compounds. These green tea leaf compounds, called catechins, are most frequently hailed for their antioxidant effects, but research indicates that the chief catechin in green tea—epigallocatechin-3-gallate, or EGCG—also enhances metabolism, increases fat oxidation, and assists weight management. A study showed that obese mice that were fed a weight-gaining diet put on significantly less weight when they were supplementing with green tea extract.

that’s the big reason why the combination of ingredients in the Zen Shape I think is important for anyone with any prediabetes or prediabetic issues to start with. So that is my first supplement recommendation (Zen Shape preferably with Zen Pro) for anyone that is prediabetic. While Zen Shape helps regular blood sugar levels, it’s also combating stress levels that are related to appetite and improving your serotonin levels for enhanced mood. This really is the perfect support to help anyone that is struggling with insulin resistance and prediabesity (as Dr. Mark Hyman has categorized this issue) to lose weight and feel better about their daily life because it:

  • Promotes Metabolic Wellness
  • Promotes Fat Loss
  • Combats Stress-Induced Fat Gain
  • Helps Regulate Blood Sugar Levels
  • Support Healthy Thermogenic Fat Burning
  • Helps Decrease Carbohydrate and Sugar Cravings
  • Supports HealthY Cholesterol Levels

The unique soluble fiber component in Zen Pro comes from real food, helping support appetite and blood sugar controls while offering a high payload of soluble fiber for prebiotic and immune system support. And I’m not talking about fiber from corn leftovers like a lot of these companies are pushing (think Fibersol for one). The product will support reliable carbohydrate availability for powerful brain function and physical performance. Have you ever had that insulin diabesity brain fog? It is very much related to this inability of our body to use it’s hormones properly and process the carbohydrates in the way that is should (like I’ve talked about on this blog before). Zen Pro also supplies healthy omegas and probiotics to promote healthy intestinal functions.

Chromium is an often overlooked supplement because people don’t often see a lot of changes from it in terms of weight loss, so they give it up. But chromium is huge when it comes to sugar cravings. Chromium has been proven to improve insulin function & reduces binge eating. Chromium is a key mineral that assists insulin to transport blood sugar into your cells. It is commonly lacking in individuals with type 2 diabetes. A study of overweight women found that chromium reduced food intake, hunger levels, and fat cravings – while tending to help decrease body weight. This study shows that chromium is a very good tool to help you eat less food when you are trying to stay on a good eating program.

Zen Pro and Zen Shape combine to create a powerful weight management system for anyone going through the symptoms of prediabesity. Dr. Hyman says this new term includes the full spectrum of metabolic dysfunction that begins with elevated blood sugar and mild insulin resistance.

But I also would recommend you add one more optional supplement to your regime, and that is Zen Fit. Amino acids along with the Inositol help lessen cravings for sugar. This is something that those with insulin sensitivity or resistance struggle with every day.

My recommendation, of course and I’m not a doctor so run all of this past your doctor before moving forward with a change in diet. I personally have a Zen Fit package in the morning and one in the early afternoon, like around 1pm, Amino Acid supplements are delivered immediately to the bloodstream upon ingestion, so they come with no additional “energy cost”. As a result, they can be particularly useful for people with energy defects.

How Big Biotech Rigged The Research On GM Foods

The Rigged Research on Genetically Modified Foods

I am very interested in genetically modified foods because I believe that my allergies were caused when these fakey foods were introduced into my life when I was eleven years old and my mom went back to work. We had always had a big garden and my mom always made our food from scratch because it was just cheaper. But cheaper led to convenience when an eleven year old girl was suddenly responsible for making dinner for the entire family. Would you be surprised to know that I became allergic first to sunflower, and second to corn?
I read a very interesting article on the Organic Consumer Associations website about some research that was done in relationship to GM foods back in 2004. The study data showed that when Canadians were given the choice of GM foods or non-GM foods most purchased the GM foods…. okay so they have now shown this to be diluted research.
The research, obviously funded by the biotech industry was conducted by four staunch proponents of GM foods. They were given the Journals’s Award for Excellence for the Most Outstanding Paper of 2004 and has become the biotechs proof that GM is all okay.
Enter Stuart Laidlaw, a reporter from Canada’s Toronto Star. He showed that the teams had huge signs on the non-GM bins that said,  ”Would you eat wormy sweet corn?” It further listed the chemicals that were sprayed during the season. The GM corn bins signs said, “Here’s What Went into Producing Quality Sweet Corn.” What choice do you think most of the population is going to choose with that kind of propaganda on the bins? Stuart has written and described the scenerio in his book Secret Ingredients: The Brave New World of Industrial Farming

You can find the story on the OCA site here –http://www.organicconsumers.org/articles/article_21386.cfm

I personally think that a lot of the problems with our food stem from the same problems as oil. When you have a small amount of the population that has become rich off of the rest of the nation – they just aren’t going to give up that money all that quickly. So I say support the local organic farmer and try to keep the distance your products travel to one day of driving distance. Also if you don’t support GM products, and urge your friends to do the same the market will shift. These people follow the money. If one line of money making dries up they will follow. Live fresher and help change the world. That’s what the I see the Paleo Vegeo movement as being.

When you do find yourself purchasing anything processed, make sure it’s clean, healthy, bioactive and has not been genetically modified.
