Get Your Glutathione Guys ….and girls

I could listen to Dr. Hyman talk all day talk about the importance of nutrition… you may not realize yet what a nutrition geek I am. Listen, when you have as many food allergies as I do, connected to as many cross proteins in my environment you start to read about nutrition, a lot. My husband is amazing with all of the changes in diet and living. He has been a ROCKSTAR throughout the process and in fact makes a lot of foods like this weekend he is making the sauerkraut that we’ll be eating in about six weeks. Archaeologists have discovered that early hunter gatherers used the fermenting process, mainly as a means of preservation. The Chinese fermented foods and hailed the fermenting juice as a treatment for many ailments I happen to LOVE sauerkraut, and always have But there is nothing like homemade, and I recommend you try it out.

Nutrition, nutrition, nutrition. It’s the root of so much bad and so much good in our lives. The biggest a-ha moment I’ve had this year when I watched and old video of Dr. Hyman talking about glutathione. And that’s what made me do a happy dance when I learned about the Action Whey Shakes made with the glutathione rich undenatured whey. Now not only is it a great product for myself, but it’s also good for men!!

Now you don’t have to just get your glutathione from pastured cows like my husband. I am the creator of the Paleo Vegeo lifestyle so I love that you can also get this from holistically good fruits and vegetables.  Get your greens because spinach, broccoli, asparagus are all great sources. As well your potatoes, avocado, squash, okra, cauliflower, walnuts also have high glutathione per serving. My mother-in-law swears by milk thistle and it is an excellent source of the antioxidant compound silymarin, which may help to prevent glutathione depletion in the liver.  I love adding super organic green powder into my paleo vegan protein shake to get that extra oomph as well.

Glutathione, the “mother of all antioxidants” in the Organic Shake at Emerals Essentials and what it an do for Crossfit Training Men

Glutathione is the “mother of all antioxidants” and until as of recently the only for of whey out there in the body building / crossfit community was hydrolyzed, isolated and packed with nasty excitotoxins. YUCKERS!! Why do you think so many fit healthy guys are coming into the local clinics with very low testosterone in their systems. Hormone problems have become a huge problem with men, not just women. Researchers from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health studied the effects of glutathione depletion on testosterone-producing cells in both young and old rats. Changes in the oxidant/antioxidant environment of aging Leydig cells {testosterone-producing}have been shown to be correlated with the reduced ability of these cells to produce testosterone

The researchers found that indeed, depleting glutathione levels in these cells reduced the rats’ testosterone production by about 40%. When antioxidants were administered, testosterone production was maintained at normal levels, and when a compound was administered specifically to boost intracellular glutathione, testosterone levels actually increased in the test animals. What they found was that indeed, depleting glutathione levels in these cells reduced the rats’ testosterone production by about 40%. If antioxidants were administered, testosterone production was maintained at normal levels. When a compound was administered specifically to boost intracellular glutathione, testosterone levels actually increased in the test animals.

High temperature processed whey creates a high level of toxins that you aren’t getting in the cold processed whey, and you don’t get that glutathione boost with this high temp whey either. Like those in the paleo world have found, the more processed, the worse it is for your body. And if you are someone that really loves to workout, you aren’t realizing how important the whey you are taking is to your body. Physical exercise influences the GSH metabolism in skeletal muscles and your live, and exhaustive exercise decreases both liver and muscle glutathione consistently.

It also helps us deal with free radicals, glutathione recycles life back into our cell…  I love that idea that Dr. Hyman talks about. And with the levels of free radical in your daily life, you do not have enough of it, and that is why this is such an important amino acid. It’s going to detoxify as well. It’s not JUST for men. It works with your cells, and therefore ladies it’s not going to turn you into a dude. It’s not a steroid. In fact, one study involved women with ovarian cancer who were being treated with chemotherapy. Some of the women were also treated with intravenous glutathione. Those given the glutathione not only had fewer side effects from the chemotherapy but also had better overall survival rates. It works with your body, and your cells to make them work better!

Watch this video and learn more about the changes that happen when you add a glutathione rich whey and other organic supplementation into your diet, and head over to try out the Action Whey Protein today to boost your glutithione the natural undenatured way.

Undenatured Whey and Meta-Therm are a powerful combination for your body, and against aflatoxins

Undenatured Whey Super Nutrition

Undenatured Whey, it really is impressive stuff because it really does give us the nutrients that your body needs and craves. I watched this video of this little old man and the improvement of his eyesight and was inspired, but it’s really something more. I am passionate about this superfood because of the impact of all of these diseases I know this product can help with.

Heat-denatured whey can still cause allergies in some people, which is why people often think they can’t use whey proteins. Whey protein contains the amino acid cysteine, which can be used to make glutathione, the mother of antioxidants. Undenatured whey protein can increase cellular glutathione levels. Glutathione is an antioxidant that defends the body against free radical damage and some toxins, and studies in animals have suggested that milk proteins might reduce the risk of cancer.

Undenatured Whey and Ginseng are a powerful combination

Undenatured Whey and Ginseng are a powerful combination for your body, and against aflatoxins I Paleo Vegeo I Barbara Christensen Ocean Avenue FounderAflatoxin, an extremely potent carcinogen and major cause of mitochondria damage (thereby having the potential to negatively affect all bodily processes including skeletal muscles), has been shown to be inhibited by undenatured whey protein and a combination of herbal extracts… think the power of the nature with OnlyProtien and Meta-Therm!

I read a study where participants were given a green coffee bean extract supplement that also contains fiber, green tea and ingredients to reduce stress/cortisol levels in between meals. In 90 days the average weight loss was 19 pounds. Completely amazing because some participants were able to significantly decrease their coffee and soda intake and some completely eliminated their cravings for soda and coffee despite they were getting caffeine daily. The combination of these two items are really going to change your health, and do not contain a bunch of ingredients that you can’t read, or wouldn’t ingest.

SO what are aflatoxins?

Aflatoxins are cancer-causing toxins (or poisons) found in molds that contaminate corn, rice, soybeans, and different nuts. Have you read a label lately? You’ll find at least one of those in just about everything on the market. In animals it can cause liver damage, decreased milk and egg production. Exposure is difficult to avoid because most fungal growth in foods is not easy to prevent. So you may have heard me talk about fatty liver before (or NASH) and predominance of women, diabetes, obesity related to it.

Give a month of this combination a try and see how you feel.

Better Than Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Dip with Apples

Better Than Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Dip with Apples

Better Than Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Dip with Apples I Paleo Vegeo I Barbara ChristensenThere is one thing that has called my name for the last seven years during September and October, and that is Pumpkin Chocolate Chip cookies. But they are evil, and I’m not going to go there this year I have decided, but I needed something that I could nosh on that was equally as yummy, but would not ruin my healthy lifestyle. That’s when my friend, Allison, came into this story. We took our kidlets to the Hands On Museum last week in Olympia, WA to celebrate and create great memories on September 11th. During lunch she takes an apple, puts it into some dip and hands it over. I was in love. It was pureed sweet potato with cinnamon, pumpkin spice, and coconut oil. Really just delish. And that got me thinking.

The next day I created the same and took it to school for a snack. I was so satisfied after I ate it. The next day is when the real magic happened, however. Think hours of homeschooling mixed with adrenal fatigue and low thyroid. CRASH! So I new I wanted something good, but I need something solid. I started pulling things out of the fridge and pantry and this is when I created the Better Than Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Dip ror my Whole 30 Challenge.

The Truth About Your Blood Sugar And Fat Loss

The Truth About Your Blood Sugar

I was always told that the secret to a diet like the Atkins diet was that it would balance out my blood sugar. So I wanted to know more about what my blood sugar was and why it needed balanced out.

The blood sugar concentration or blood glucose level is the amount of  glucose (sugar) present in the blood of a human or animal. The body naturally tightly regulates blood glucose levels as a part of metabolic system in your body. If you are not a diabetic, then generally speaking your blood sugar doesn’t change much at all during the day. It may rise a little after a good carbohydrate packed meal, but your body does what it needs to {which could be part of the problem here} to balance everything back out.

Insulin is the problem for those that are diabetic, and it’s actually a hormone that is made in the pancreas. It plays a big role in metabolism. Your other brain, the digestive tract breaks down these carbohydrates in your body and converts it to glucose, a form of sugar that enters the bloodstream. You body uses that for energy.

If you are insulin resistant your body produces the insulin, but doesn’t use it effectively. The glucose (sugars) build up in the blood instead of being absorbed into the cells which is what leads to Type 2 Diabetes. Insulin is required for carbohydrate, fat and proteins to be metabolized, and so if you are resistant then muscle, fat and liver cells do not respond they way they should to this hormone. Experts believe that our obesity epidemic, and especially the inability to get rid of that fat around the waist is being caused by this insulin resistance.

So how does this impact fat loss?

Your body has two forms of energy however. It can pull energy from sugars, or fats. Did you know that? And did you know that your brain runs on glucose? If there is no sugar available for your body, it will then turn to fat to start producing energy. Don’t you love that? I know I always enjoy reducing the fat cells in my body, because a tiny fat cell is a happier fat cell.

How Stuff Works shared:
The first line of defense in maintaining energy is to break down carbohydrates, or glycogen, into simple glucose molecules — this process is called glycogenolysis. Next, your body breaks down fats into glycerol and fatty acids in the process of lipolysis. The fatty acids can then be broken down directly to get energy, or can be used to make glucose through a multi-step process called gluconeogenesis. In gluconeogenesis, amino acids can also be used to make glucose.

In the fat cell, other types of lipases work to break down fats into fatty acids and glycerol. These lipases are activated by various hormones, such as glucagon, epinephrine and growth hormone. The resulting glycerol and fatty acids are released into the blood, and travel to the liver through the bloodstream. Once in the liver, the glycerol and fatty acids can be either further broken down or used to make glucose.

So let’s break it down…

This means you don’t have to go round and round in this cycle if you do not want to. With the right nutrition your body can create the energy it needs, reduce the fat cells, and run like a well oiled machine… and all without making a batch of pasta. How great is that? When you aren’t eat a lot of carbs and grains your body can use things like coconut oil (healthy fats) to generate the energy your brain needs. Your brain and body can do the same thing with the amino acids, and we are getting all of the healthy bioavailable amino acids when we are using a recovery formula like ZenPro and ZenFit. And when you are using something like the Zen Bodi System from Jeunesse Global you are getting all of this good stuff, without all of the carb loading, and it is created to balance out your blood sugar so that you don’t have the urges to jump over the counter at the coffee shop to get the last cinnamon roll before someone else orders it.

How to get through a healthy pregnancy with proper supplementation I Glutahtione and Chorella and Flax

How to get through a healthy pregnancy with chlorella supplementation

How to get through a healthy pregnancy with chlorella supplementation using Ocean Avenue WheySmart Shake
B12 is one of the vitamins a lot of vegans have to either supplement with or turn to vegetarianism by adding back in whey protein. You may not know that Chlorella contains the highest chlorophyll level per ounce of any plant, as well as protein (nearly 58 percent), carbohydrates, all of the B vitamins, vitamins C and E, amino acids (including all nine essential ones), enzymes and rare trace minerals. The research I’ve seen says that chlorella is something any pregnant or nursing mom should look into. Pregnant women have an increased risk of developing several health problems, including anemia, protein in the urine and the accumulation of fluid in the body, also known as edema. The nutrients present in these may be able to help prevent some of these problems. They have been shown to cleanse toxins from the milk, and then those toxins/heavy metals are excreted via bowels, not your baby’s breast milk. (Also for those nursing dandelion in a nice organic, herbal tea promotes lactation and can assist in breastfeeding as well). There is an amazing daily shake supplement that contains all of this and more, and it’s fully organic, called Organic Greens Complex. It’s gluten-free, dairy-free, vegan, kosher, nongmo certified and preservative free!!

Natural ingredients and how they support the pregnant and nursing mom

Having a green smoothie is a new daily shake that contains very few ingredients, but those ingredients are very good for you. Both spirulina, which is very nutrient dense, and  the cracked cell chlorella which has the benefit of cleansing breast milk so that after you’ve delivered your baby, you can give him or her breastmilk that is very clean and very nutritious, are options that every mom-to-be should consider. In fact a lot of raw vegan experts recommend them, like Dr Cousens and Dr Clement.

Next we have the glutathione that you get from the undenatured whey, the highlight of my green smoothie that I get from Organic Action Whey. Glutathione is always being required from our bodies and is consumed rapidly when we experience any sort of demand on the body, such as during pregnancy. Glutathione is the mother of all antioxidants, and will protect both mother and pre-born baby from the damages of oxidative stress and free radicals. Many of the birth defects and pregnancy complications have been linked to free radical damage, oxidative stress, and low glutathione levels in the mother and developing baby. Undenatured whey protein seems to be the best method for obtaining the building blocks of glutathione. Supplementing with glutathione doesn’t neccessarily help your body. But your cells make glutathione with the rich amino acids delivered from the Action Whey protein which has been tested for heavy metals which most whey shakes have not.

Another factor that pregnant moms need to be aware of is fiber. Even before getting pregnant they recommend that you pump up that fiber. It will make you less likely to develop gestational diabetes, researchers report in the October edition of Diabetes Care. Flaxseed meal supplies not only the rich omega-3’s for your baby’s developing brain, but also the lignans, and soluble and insoluble fiber. This mediates the glycemic impact of your foods. I like to add flaxseed and fresh fruit to my smoothie to get all of that.

During pregnancy, vitamin C is recommended for the mother’s bone and also to help in prevention of child deformities, and the acerola fruit is an amazing source of that necessary vitamin. The most common source of natural vitamin C for a pregnant mom would be citrus, rose hips or acerola berries. And you also know the importance of getting a proper supply of folate, a nutrient that aids in the development of the fetus and helps to prevent birth defects. The acerola berry (another great ingredient in the Organic Greens Complex) is a great natural source of folate and assists in healthy cell growth and works to prevent heart disease. Now, I am not a doctor, and so you should always run any nutritional supplementation past your own OBGYN before getting started with a new supplement during your pregnancy.

Supporting and healing adrenal fatigue naturally

Supporting and healing adrenal fatigue naturally with essential oils, vitamins, and nutrients

Adrenal Fatigue Support with Barbara Christensen Coach Ocean Avenue Founding Ambassador doTERRA

I had a severe adrenal fatigue issue a few years ago, and then I started drinking coffee. MAJOR fail! So I dropped the coffee, and cleaned up my act, and thought that maybe it was just a passing phase.

So then this last month I really up’d my workouts, after a long Beast 90 days, and the extra HIIT and Plyo workouts made me feel AMAZING at the end of them, but then I would totally crash!

So …. you may think, ‘that sounds like me’.

What is Adrenal Fatigue?

Do you feel tired for no reason, or get that post-workout High then crash? Do you find that where you used to get up easily, you are having trouble getting out of bed in the morning? Is the first thing you reach for a cup of coffee, soda, energy drink, sweets or salty treats to get you moving? (or to keep you moving mid-afternoon) Do you feel more stressed than usual and totally run down?

If you answered “yes” to these questions then you are probably experiencing this really unpleasant thing called adrenal fatigue. Adrenal fatigue occurs when your adrenal gland function becomes less than optimal. And your diet, the way you workout, the stress at work or surrounding relationships can have an effect on all of that.

To support your adrenals you can add these essential oils to 1/4 teaspoon of the FCO (coconut oil) and apply as a warm compress over the adrenal glands (located on top of the kidneys).
. 3 drops clove
. 3 drops nutmeg
. 7 drops rosemary

That’s a great start.

Also besides that, I have to say “Welcome to my Life Trim60! Invigorate and WheySmart has been the best support to my adrenal glands, and in reducing stress. Didn’t I hear that somewhere before? {Thanks, Franco for the info!} I have learned that you have to support your adrenals specifically with nutrition, especially when you up the game.

While the adrenal glands need numerous nutrients to function normally, perhaps the most important of them all is vitamin C, and a lot of people with really stressed out adrenals can’t tolerate the vitamin C supplements, but they can tolerate acerola berries in a highly concentrated formula like in WheySmart. Sufferers of adrenal fatigue are hit particularly hard by vitamin C deficiency. The production of cortisol and other adrenal hormones, characteristically low in this disorder, is dependent on an ongoing supply of vitamin C. If this supply dwindles, so too does the secretion of adrenal hormones. This feeble response from the adrenal glands places the body under further stress, further increasing demand for the vitamin C. The importance of intervention with the appropriate amounts of this nutrient should not be overlooked. And the ingredients in Invigorate also work to reduce that cortisol and daily stress level. I love it.

One of the most relevant features of this immune imbalance is the susceptibility to yeast infections. So if you have stressed out adrenals then you need to stay away from added sugar. The products I recommend have no added sugar. The way I eat – which is Paleo Vegeo – has no added sugar.

Adrenal Support Soup

Adrenal Fatigue Recovery Soup by Taz using Support from Paleo Vegeo

The following vegetable soup recipe has proved helpful in adrenal support. It is rich in minerals and alkalinizing to help balance the acidity that usually occurs in people experiencing adrenal fatigue and stress. I talk a lot about alkalinizing with using the Paleo Vegeo basic lifestyle changes in your diet starting today. This soup has a calming, settling effect. They call it “Taz,” comes from Dolores S. Downey’s “Balancing Body Chemistry with Nutrition” seminars.
